How do I put this together because the scratching post on the base is not screwing in?!?

Once you have the correct screw in the post you can then attach it by screwing it in clockwise. It does take a long time, but keep going until it doesn't turn anymore.

Can you use this without including the hammock?

Sure, just don’t install it. The 4 posts will screw together easily without the hammock.

Does anyone know the height from the platform to the first landing (the one right above the hammock)?

Looks like about 3 feet. There is a lower smaller shelf to the right that is about 2 feet high.
