I fed birds in too obvious of an area and had out way too much seed and was given nest boxes which I readily put up only to get non-native sparrows (who chirp very loudly attracting every predator around). The seed, loud sparrow nestlings and our small pond attracted entire families of cooper's hawks, sharp shinned and red tails not to mention goshawks, turkey vultures and black vultures. Grackles also like to eat sparrows so entire flocks visited and crows will take fledglings/nestlings. Well after seeing all this predation, I bought this tape, a nerf gun that shoots around 90 feet, fake owls and a sarah palin mask to put on a scarecrow. I'm working on the plastic owl to make it more realistic but the tape was absolutely useless. The coopers and sharp shinned hawks perched in the tree right above a feeder (that I've now moved to a more hidden spot) and crapped on the tape. The shiny stuff doesn't work. What does work is sound effects taken from the cornell/macauley website of distress/alarm calls of these birds or territorial calls of their enemies (juvenile red tails will be pushed away by great horned owl territorial hoots), coopers alarm calls will push back juvenile coopers hawks along with goshawk alarm calls and sharp shins should respond to the cooper's alarm or the sharp shin alarm. I've also used an adult red tail scream to get rid of juvenile red tails in the area. They should be played every 10 to 15 mins or so, rotating between calls. The plastic owl will need to be modified because it looks like plastic so I'm covering it with some fake fur to get it to have a proper drape and gluing feathers neatly to that while painting the more complex areas. The hubby is taking a moving mechanism of an old christmas reindeer and trying to make the head move but if not, the look and sound effect should do it. We will be covering the owl to protect from weather using plastic hidden with arched branches and leaves. Should look pretty good when done. Will let everyone know after it's finished. What I will say in conclusion - don't bother with this stupid tape. The stuff doesn't have any affect on hungry raptors. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ PREDATORGUARD Best Bird Repellent Scare Tape - Repels Wild Turkeys *by D***S on Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2019* I have had a major problem with wild turkeys invading my lawn and flower beds. The wild turkey's were defecating on my lawn big time, digging in my flower beds, and scattering bark all over.I used the Scare Tape as a baffler by stringing it on a line with the string attached to 8 small posts 10 feet apart. This created a barrier around my yard. I put it up in the late afternoon when the turkeys appeared and took it down after 2 hours. Taking down each PM was important because I live in a retirement community.I have been doing this for 2 weeks and the wild turkeys now pass by my house and visit other properties causing my neighbors problems. The scare tape is more effective when there is a breeze because it creates a noise. The tape is still effective when a string is used because the string creates a natural barrier.Some neighbors inquired about my efforts and success. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Appears to Keep a Woodpecker Away, but..... *by H***O on Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2015* We have cedar siding which a woodpecker has been attacking. I hung strips of Scare Tape from the eaves using a string and it does seem to keep the woodpecker away. However, the strips cut from my roll immediately roll back up on themselves into a 1 inch diameter roll. I added a medium binder clip to the bottom of the strip to keep the strip unrolled. However, the extra weight causes the strip to break near the binder clip after a day or so in a moderate wind. The strip then rolls back up onto itself. I finally ran the string along the entire length of the strip to the binder clip. This seems to work. However, the wind can blow the binder clip against the siding so when the wind is strong, I have to take the strips down and rehang them when the winds subside or the woodpecker will return. I notice in photographs in other reviews that the strips seem to hang without rolling back up on themselves. My strips will roll up after hanging for days with weight on the bottom if the weight is removed.
