No gradual increasing in slice width. The slicer was supposed to come with two adjustment tools. My shipment was missing the Allen wrench, but I had one that fit so it wasn't a big deal. The wrenches are great for keeping the blade and slice width constant. The blade is removable/replaceable using the tool to remove. The slices were uniform. The crank was very easy to rotate and after trying to cut sourdough by hand for years, this is a huge improvement.
