Review: Autistic Adult: Hates Cooking - I recently purchased the ReadyWise Freeze-Dried Meal Bucket and have been thoroughly impressed with the variety and convenience it offers. As someone who faces challenges with food preparation due to executive dysfunction, this bucket has been a game-changer for ensuring I have nourishing meals without the stress of cooking. The selection of meals included in the bucket is impressive and covers a wide range of flavors and options. From the savory Southwest Beans and Rice to the comforting Tomato and Basil Soup, each meal has provided a delicious and satisfying experience. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of including both breakfast and main meal choices, making it versatile for any time of day. One standout feature is the ease of preparation. Rehydrating the meals has been a breeze, requiring only water and a short waiting time. This convenience has been a lifesaver for most, if not all of my meals. I don't have a food preparation service near my home, so this was the next best thing. In addition, it has helped me portion control and help with my IBS, because it replaced my diet of frozen pizzas and various other "fast" junk food. Overall, I have no problem with the purchase. The only meal I don't prefer is the Tomato and Basil. I complemented this bucket with a bucket of fruit to help balance the nutrient value. The freeze-dried fruit blends have been a delightful addition to my meals. The burst of natural flavors and the nutritional benefits they provide have made each meal more enjoyable and well-rounded. While convenience is paramount for me, I've also been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meals. The textures and flavors have exceeded my expectations for freeze-dried food, and I haven't encountered any unpleasant aftertastes or artificial flavors. The ReadyWise Freeze-Dried Meal Bucket has become an essential part of my meal planning, whether for quick on-the-go options or for emergencies. The peace of mind it provides is invaluable, knowing that I have a variety of wholesome meals at my fingertips. In summary, I highly recommend the ReadyWise Freeze-Dried Meal Bucket to anyone seeking a convenient, flavorful, and balanced meal solution. It's a fantastic way to ensure you're well-prepared for various situations, and it's a game-changer for individuals like me who face challenges with food preparation. Disclaimer: As a reviewer, my experience is specific to my personal needs and preferences. However, I believe the quality and convenience of this product would be valuable for anyone looking for hassle-free meal options.
Review: It's a "Prepper Pack" folks, not "Fine cuisine for those on the go"... - I've been wanting to get some dehydrated/freeze dried emergency food for some time now, but just found it to be expensive. Been using MRE's for a few years but they are heavy and need to be used as optimal storage conditions (65 deg or less) aren't realistic in most homes. Found these Prepper Pack's at a very good price, $20-30 less than other sellers, and so I bought 4 units. Prime 2 day shipping also was a plus. They arrived on time, and was reading reviews, and although I will save these for "emergencies" and finish off my MRE store first, I won't be tasting them for a spell but wanted to post a review on the other issues people post about. The buckets I recieved are marked as mfg 07/01/2014. So I was very pleased as some reviewers stated theirs were a couple years old. I wondered about the pouches, as one review warned about these "cheap" buckets were old style and very poor Mylar bags. Even stated white buckets were bad style and grey bucket good pouches. Well I was a bit apprehensive then, so although I really wanted to keep buckets sealed I opened one just to know. Well although my buckets were white, as stated they couldn't be fresher than 24 days, but also came in "premium" pouches! Very relieved! I do agree that buckets waste a lot of space. Two buckets could easily fit in one and I will likely do that when the time comes to use them, to save space. Lastly, I want to address the very negative reviews concerning "servings" vs "caloric content". Come on folks, really? If you're using this food for hiking, or combat conditions, then I could understand. Caloric content when you're involved in moderate hiking or combat situations is crucial, as the calories expended in those situations can be quite high. But THESE ARE SOLD AS EMERGENCY SURVIVAL RATIONS!! What those decrying the low caloric content per serving aren't factoring is two fold. 1- Americans eat too much food! Over 50% of us are overweight! and 35% are medically considered obese. We are obsessed with eating, and have conditioned our bodies to expect high caloric intake thus falsely triggering feelings of hunger when we're nowhere near "starving". I have spent a lifetime eating only what my body needed and at 54 still retained my lean body, and well defined/toned musculature. And without any gym time or daily sit-ups to maintain the same physique and happily, six-pack I had in high school. 2- In "survival" situations, high caloric intake is not necessary. If you're expending so much energy to need 1500-2000 cal/daily, you are not acting in survival mode! When I went through jungle training in S. America, we were lucky to avg 500-700 cal/day with occasional supplements of wild fruit, tubers, yes, bugs, and 2 monkeys in a two week period. Sure, we all lost some weight (a few needed to), but all were in great physical condition when we found our way back to our FOB. WATER was the vital component in "survival". People in good health can go at least 2 weeks without food, but only 3 days without water. So, keep in mind what you're buying these for. If you want to start using immediately, and simply looking for camping or backpacking food, then stick with Mountain House or equivalent. That's what it's designed for, and it's great stuff. I've used it many times in the past. But it's not cheap, and if you buy buckets of it for survival stores, very expensive and unnecessary in my opinion. But $46 and free shipping for 52 serving buckets of dehydrated/freeze dried food in the quality Mylar bag is a bargain I won't pass on to add to my survival/emergency supplies. Lastly, my big complaint about the "old" food suppliers is this. They have been in the business for decades. They sell huge quantities of product using the same processes they've used nearly the entire time. So why, instead of whining about all the "me too" dehydrated/freeze dried companies popping up, maybe lower their high prices and increase sales, gaining more customers and increasing profit margins? They've been doing this a long time, and it's just as expensive to buy as it was 20 years ago. I'm confident their profit margins have skyrocketed. One of the reasons I quit shopping at REI years ago when the name became the only reason for the high prices. Thanks for your time. It is, after all, only my opinion. But I'm happy with my purchase and hope I'm as pleased when I finally taste the product. Then, I'll adjust review accordingly.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How many does it serve**
A: Your math skills need some work. 16 servings of juice and 12 servings of milk is 28. So there are 24 servings of food, and unless you eat like a cow, that's enough for two people for 4 days at three meals a day. Also it didn't say 52 servings of food. It just says 52 servings total which is not an inaccurate description.

**Q: How many servings per bag? And are the bags resealable?**
A: With 13,400 calories, and knowing that the minimal caloric need for an adult who isn't active is around 1200 calories per day (and you will lose weight at this level), this is roughly a 10-day emergency supply for one person, a 3-day emergency supply for 3 people. If you are truly in any kind of a survival situation for 10 days on this diet where you are active, you will likely lose 5 to 10 lbs or more. If you really need this food, the bags won't be open long enough to worry about the food spoiling... you will eat it too quickly. At $15 per day. That seems excessive for the food alone, so what you are paying for is the storage packaging. Honestly, if you were trapped by an emergency and had only this to rely on, better plan for no more than a week absent significant discipline on your part.

**Q: what is the total calories of the kit**
A: Could not say for sure. It has a variety of packets, different meals have different calorie count. As i have used some of mine..... I could not say how many of each packet comes in the order. Roasted chicken packets are 50 calories and the cheesy ground beef has 100 calorie count, etc. Hope this helps a little.

**Q: Would this be suitable for vegetarians (no jokes please)**
A: Thank you for asking this question. I see a reply or 2 commenting saying if it's survival, then one should be glad for what they have and just eat it even if it's not vegetarian. I would just like to point out that there are people...such as myself....that are medically unable to eat meat. It's not a lifestyle choice. In a survival situation, I would not be able to eat the meat of any animal due to a very serious medical condition. So, while any person in a survival situation should certainly be grateful for what they're able to get/have, please do not forget about those of us that are truly unable to consume meat do to it being a medical emergency if we do.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mediocre and I mean that in a good way
*by K***. on 4 December 2022*

I nabbed this bucket to taste-test the meals and report what I found about the taste, as I taste them. I hope to keep this updated as I try them (currently 12/4/2022). So far, I've had the Stroganoff and the Southwest rice and beans. First thing's first (and as others have mentioned): the meals are NOT packaged individually. You get a LOT of stroganoff, or a LOT of Orange drink. If you order this bucket, I would advise tossing in a measuring cup and a handful of rubber bands so you can portion and repackage as-needed. Also, keep in mind that the portions are around 300 calories, maybe half of what most red-blooded americans would consider as a small meal. This is not a deal breaker - you are expected to be living pretty lean given the circumstances these are meant to be used in. NOW ON TO THE MEAL REVIEWS The Stroganoff: very salty to my taste, as well as having clumps of non-constituted powder (that might be a me issue - mix well!). I would recommend using actual boiling water to prepare this - I used hot water from the tap and it was certainly *edible*, but I can only describe the texture of the noodles as being "Al Dente" if I'm being charitable. It's not bad, but I'd only be happy to eat it in the emergency situation it's meant for. 3.5/5* - fills its intended role very well. Southwest Rice and Beans: also quite salty, but it's a more pleasant flavor than the strog (in my opinion, of course). It's "meh" at best if you're comparing it to an actual meal, but I think it would be pretty pleasant to eat if, say, you were isolated for an extended period of time for whatever reason. Again, I hope you have means to truly boil water in an emergency, because this one came out of the prep still unpleasantly crunchy for a Beans'n'rice dish (read as "even slightly crunchy"). 4/5* - despite my snark, I think it's not bad. Use boiling water and mix well. That is all for now, I hope I can edit this comment with further reviews down the line, otherwise I will reply to this review. Happy Holidays! (12/4/2022)
