Yes, you need 2. Please note, that while the wires seem to be well constructed, the banana plugs are not. They pull off and break after 2-3 movements of the speakers. I have had to "rebuild" these cables with higher quality banana plugs

Yes, I verified with my DMM that the metal caps are conductive. You would short out your amp if they touched.
