Q: what are the sizes of the pieces? the description say 2 - 3.5 inches. in one of the pictures, it measures up to 6 inches. which is correct?

I purchased this product for my grandson and he loves it. My recollection of it is that the pieces are from about 2 - 5 inches depending on the type of animal you are looking at. The larger animals such as the whale, camel, etc. are larger pieces. Each one is very unique and filled with meticulous details.

Q: Are they good for a 5 year old

If your five year old doesnt tear or bend things or isnt destructive in any way then I would say yes but some of the animals have long tails that aren't part of the cutout in the sense that they are drawn on but actually have a separation from the animal with a space between the legs and tail if that makes sense sorry for the long answer.

Q: Are the names of the animals listed on the back of the animal or in an incert paper?

No it’s just a black magnet on the back. I don’t remember there being any names anywhere
