Excellent sounding guitar for price
I love these Martin Smith guitars they always look great. I never find any flaws on them or cosmetic stuff like that. Great brand!

Nice guitar
If this guitar had a cat got here and working order, I would have given it five stars, however if I want to play it I'm going to have to go fix the short in the switch because it does not work or make any sound through my amplifier when set on rhythm, unless I wiggle the switch which has an obvious short in it. This means I will probably pay around $100 counting parts and labor to have the guitar functioning as it should. I have a cheap Donner imitation Les Paul for sound quality is very similar, and $129 it didn't come broken. And with a set of Wilkinson tuning hardware seems to be every bit as nice a guitar. I know this is not common in Epiphones, but wanted everything to at least function. And as with every guitar almost you buy, it needs a little tweaking here and there to make it play better, the strings of mine were a little bit higher off the neck then I would like, and one of the pickups nearest the next seems to be a little bit low, but that's personal taste and even with that the sound is better than many more expensive guitars.

Good for beginners
Good for beginners. It is not a high quality product but it works for people who are starting in the world of playing a guitar and also for a good price. My previous review was only one star because I received the guitar totally smashed, but, I realized this sad inconvenient had been caused for the carrier company (USPS, UPS, whatever) and not for the manufacturer. So, give them a chance.

Great set for a beginner
I am in my late 30's and completely new to guitar, but I wanted to learn. The tuner is easy to use (Make sure it is set to "G" for guitar), and it sounds/feels great. Again, I have a beginner ear, but the tuner shows I'm in tune and it sounds great when I strum all the strings. I'm of average build and just shy of 6'... this guitar fits me very well. The strings seems like decent quality and appear to "soften" a little as you play. My fingers were very sore the first couple weeks, but now the strings feel easier to press and my fingers no longer have pain. The picks that come with this set are a little firm. I ordered some thinner picks that are much better for use with strumming.

Bad for the money
The best thing about this guitar is it's looks, and that isn't all that great either. I have been playing for a year now and have had fairly cheap guitars (primarily Glarry and Glen Burton). This one, Martin Smith, is by far the worst. Firstly if anyone says they're still using the strings that came with it they really don't know anything. Ask any guitarist and they will tell you the first thing you do is replace the strings. The strings that come with this guitar are junk. Throw the away. Next, I had it for less than 48 hours and a tuner snapped inside. When tuning it I had to adjust the truss severely to get the neck right. The frets needed sanded and leveled as they would cause a muted note on various frets due to the next fret being too high. The nut and saddle being plastic causes nasty sound. The bridge pin holes are loose for and if you are not careful the pins will pop out. It's a good thing I have been studying a bit of the Luthier arts. I replaced the nut and saddle with bone. Changed the tuners,(which the holes had to be reamed out to handle the Wilkerson tuners), and found an old set of bridge pins from another guitar. I have put new Martin 10 to 47 strings on it and it still needs a bit more tweaking to make it right. It is now at an acceptable level. If you are willing to do the work it will cost at least $50 more to get it sounding acceptable, if you don't know how to fix it definitely pass this one by. Spend a bit more and get at least a Squire.

Good beginner guitar
Well you get a full array of things when purchasing this guitar for not much money and it came with strings already on, but it doesn’t have a good sound. It doesn’t hold a tune very well and the tuner they send isn’t very accurate or easy to use. Good for learning to play guitar but prepare to tune every time you play. Also the strings are pretty cheap. I’d go ahead and buy a different pair of strings when you buy this guitar. Fun to play around on but I wouldn’t play this in front of an audience
