You put a soft boiled egg in an egg cup, place the dome atop the egg, slide the ball up the pole and drop the ball. When it drops it cleanly cuts the shell in a circle. As you tip the dome off the top of the egg, a small part of the top of the egg comes off (like you sliced it off with a knife) so that you have a flat top on the egg allowing you to use a spoon and eat the egg out of the shell.
