Awesome series
Over loved reading every book in this series so far and this one was amazing, too. After watching the TV series until it was cancelled after the second season, I can visualize each of the characters in these books. I felt bad for what Steph and Stan are having to deal with and I didn't believe in the change that was going on with Bob. I had hopes that he really was changing, but I never trusted him. I'm hoping that Malic makes it back in one piece and that he and Pat can have a wonderful life together. Hopefully I'll find out in the next book..

Will the series continue after this installment?
For some reason I thought the story would conclude with this volume, only to be left with one more cliffhanger ending. It would be nice to know from the author/publisher whether this series will carry on through the rest of the war (logical) or if the writer is committed to that many books going forward? That being said, I liked the story arcs in this book and could imagine them playing out if the TV series had been allowed to go into more seasons with the network. The aftermath of the spitfire plane crash spins out into the lives of the main characters in a believable manner and other than having more time with our favorite characters that the show would have allowed, the book more briefly takes us along and our imaginations fill in the details. It's so unfair that the network decided this show appealed to "only" older women and wasn't loved by a wider demographic and so cancelled it, the writing/casting/historic details made this a wonderful show that appeals to all ages. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, who cares if it isn't "literary," we want to see how these folks got on.

My favorite story ever!
I started watching Home Fires when it first aired on PBS and was shattered when it was canceled! This story is my happy place and I am forever grateful that Simon Block has continued it for us! I love all of these characters and their storyline, especially Pat Sims. I always look forward to the next, but I still watch the first two seasons of the PBS series. The characters in this story give us a blueprint of how to get through tough times!! Thank you Simon Block!!

Women In Wartime
Excellent book depicting WWII from the everyday lives of women in a small rural area. It shows the many personal problems that still persist today .... survival not only from the threats of war but through profound personal tragedies of abuse, death, illness, betrayal and the strength of women to survive and ultimately excell. The book is very well written and one does not know until the end how the stories will resolve. Definitely worth reading....

A satisfactory wrap-up
While Simon Block's writing style may not be up to some readers' standards, I felt the books were more than adequate, considering the task he was given - to complete the stories of the Keep the Home Fires characters that viewers had become so invested in. While we don't know what will happen to the WI members as the war goes on, especially Pat, Steph, Laura and Teresa , we know where they are now. This allows us to add our own hopes and dreams and write our own conclusions to their life stories.

Another great story!
An excellent follow on to the first book in this new series. It seamlessly picked up where it left off, and again brought the reader into the village of Great Paxford and the lives of its inhabitants. Looking forward to book 3!

A brilliant follow up
I fell in love with the characters in the original show, and when it was cancelled I was devastated, but when I read the follow up book, it was as if it was still on the air. This second novel to follow up the show was a wonderful read and I could not get enough of it. Would strongly recommend to anyone who likes the genre. Hopeful for another one in the next few years!

Always good to go back
Another great follow on to the home fires TV series. There are so many characters established from the show and previous book that it can feel like some characters barely got a mention, but overall still a lovely read
