I use these Sani-Chips for my rats, mice, AND snakes. It works perfectly for all of them! If you're using it for animals that like to burrow, I suggest mixing it with other types of bedding that are better at holding their shape. (A little bit of timothy hay works well for that since it smells nice, isn't dusty, and won't be eaten since they recognize it as nesting material!) Otherwise, this bedding can be used on its own.This is the holy grail for my rats in particular. Every other bedding I've tried makes them sneeze, including the popular brands that are widely considered to be safe for rats. Prior to switching to this bedding, any bedding I used made them sneeze, secrete excess porphyrin, and have bad fur quality from irritation.After switching to this bedding, all of my rats are pretty much completely sneeze-free. They look (and seem to feel!) much better. You can use it with a sifter to remove the soiled parts and make it last longer.Just be aware that if you're a human with allergies or asthma, this bedding might bother you. It does get to me a bit, but I'm willing to deal with that for the sake of my rats' health. Since I run an air purifier, it really only bothers me when I have to deep clean it, which isn't too often since it lasts quite a long time. One bag lasted me over a month for two double critter nations, a single critter nation, and four 50 gallon snake enclosures! I definitely recommend Sani-Chips and I'm surprised more people don't use them already!

I have been using sani-chips for several years as bedding for a small collection of snakes. The product has provided just what I needed for ease of use and easy cleaning to provide sanitary conditions for my animals. The delivery was very prompt and the bags were shipped in boxes that protected the contents from damage, contamination, and moisture. I was very pleased with the efforts of the provider.

For what it is and what I use it for, it is a bit pricey!!

Great product. Just as advertised

So glad I gave this a try. I normally use hemp and thought it was the best but this surpasses even that! It keeps everything seeming so clean, it dehydrates the poops and cleaning the cage is easy peazy, no sticking at all. It's so soft, dust free and my rats have had no problems at all. I've only ordered this a little over a month ago and changed the cage a few times but it looks like it will last quite a while as well..nothing at all to complain about, some seriously great stuff!Edit..one bag lasted me 3-4m w changing their cage twice a WK. Hopefully this will always remain available bc I intend to use only this forever, it's really the best bedding.

One of my rats is more sensitive to new things than the other. I’ve tried other beddings and she would sneeze a concerning amount. Once I changed the substrate to this it completely changed her health. She’s sneezing less & has less porphyrin in her eyes. It lasts a while without smelling especially if you sift out the soiled parts.

The substrate should really be listed as “fine”. It was delivered with quite a bit of dust and the little flakes got stuck in my Hognoses nostrils as well as their cloaca which could have probably caused some issues had I not caught it soon enough.I reached out to the seller who said they were going to send a new bag, and was ghosted soon after. If you’re going to buy Sani Chips for your reptiles, highly suggest the “coarse” version over the regular. This stuff is probably okay for breeding rodents, but with the consistency of cat litter I wouldn’t use it for much more than that.

I use this for my rodents and I love how well it controls the smell. In general, people complain about mouse buck odor, but my rodent room is not offensive at all!! I have about 20 mouse bucks (I am a breeder) at any given time and I have people come in for the first time (no chance of being nose blind) and do not have any issues with the scent in the room.Mice can't tunnel in this, but I put other stuff in for things like nest building and tunnels. That's the only potential downside and it can absolutely be resolved.
