Freedom Fighters: The Ray (Blu-ray)

I believe the narrative weak and the fact that the main character is gay seemed forced and little to do with plot development. Yes I understand that it one reason he stayed on the other earth, but he had family and a boyfriend that cared about him on Earth 2 was it. I would have to say it was the weakest DC animated feature I have ever seen. The next being the Killing Joke.

Seriously?!!? The Hero is gay, whats the big deal? People have to watch straight people flirt and kiss on tv all the time. Its honestly about time that we have an awkward gay hero try and pick up a boy in a bar. I give it 5 stars for just trying! And for all the people who feel "awkward or uncomfortable" showing this to your kids, you need to realize that times are changing and its not the 50's anymore.

I honestly had no idea what to expect when this was announced. I'm a big fan of the DCU animated movies (at least, those that are in continuity.) So I figured I'd check this one out when I learned that it was based on Grant Morrison's version of the Ray from Multiversity. In case you don't read comics, or missed the series in question, this Ray Terrel is gay, which I felt added some sorely missing diversity to these DVDs. I've got to say, in comparison to the other titles I've purchased, this one held up well. I recommend.

This is an awesome superhero movie! It has a number of superheroes running around for you to enjoy as well as some very nice other plot points. If you are a raging homophobe then you should probably skip this one because you can't seem to accept that gay people exist and they are going to show up in movies sometimes. If, however, you understand that people are different and that's okay, this is a great movie!

For an adventure/superhero video, it was entertaining. It touched on various issues and development of interesting characters. Recommend just renting this video.

I only buy movies with have a digital copy as well. This was advertised as having a digital copy but did not once it arrived. I sent the movie back without watching. I gave the movie 5 stars because I’m a fan of DC Universe and Marvel animated movies.

I have no issues with an openly gay superhero, but I do have an issue when the hero is a complete wuss. This movie and character was made only so DC could check off some virtue signal box. The main character has trouble making you feel anything but annoyance for him. The movie spends way too much time explaining that he's gay and he takes almost the whole movie to actually come out to his parents and tell them. This movie, and main character, does not do the gay community any favors. I like watching the birth and origins of a new character, but the story line of an alternate time line with the Nazis winning, and the ensuing struggle, feels borrowed and lazy in a rush to let you know how much they support gay characters. I feel like they missed the mark in a lot of ways. If you're going to introduce an openly gay character, do it right. They failed here.

Did not expect for a superhero movie to have a story line that would capture the soul of the ongoing emotional riot in the LGBT community. This one is such joy to watch. Will definitely recommend!
