Black Scat Mat 13ft - Roll

We had a bad cat problem in our neighborhood, and the cats would spray our front door, so we bought these pads, and they are extremely effective, no more cats spraying our front door, they are perfect to keep animals away from where ever you don't want them.

I bought this mat to keep squirrels from climbing my bird feeder poles. The squirrels would pull down my bird feeders and break them.I bought this mat hoping it would stop the desrtruction of my bird feeders. I wrapped the mat around the poles and tree branches and I even made a wall with the mat, but this mat did not stop squirrels. Squirrles are used to sharp tree branches so the spikes do not bother them. The squirrels walked over the spikes without any problems.The mat did not work with squirrels, but for our neighbor's cat it is keeping it out of our yard for now. Our neighbor's very large kitty would jump our vinyl fence and jump into our yard to get to the wild birds eating at our bird feeders. The cat would come into our yard early in the morning and sit quietly under plants. I worried it might get one of the birds. So I laid the cat scat mat over the top of the ground where the neighbor's cat jumps into our yard. I woke up early one morning and I heard the cat jumping our fence to get out of our yard. I'm not sure if it actually jumped on the spikes or if the cat saw the spikes from the top of our fence. A few days later, I heard it jump on top of our fence again, but this time it did not jump into our yard. It must have seen the mat was still in place. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this will stop the kitty coming into our yard.It didn't work for squirrels but it seems to be working with our neighbor's cat. For the squirrels I'm looking around Amazon for something else.

UPDATE: I just put one of the mats on top of the frig to keep the cat from using that as a "stair step" to the top of my upper kitchen cabinets, where I display my vintage cookie jars. It was only a matter of time before he caused a disaster up there, but no more worries about that! I was also able to bring my Shefflera plant in from the garage where it's been since the cat showed up....those are toxic to cats, and he would NOT leave it alone. Now, I put two mats together, put the large plant on top, and he just sits and looks, as if wondering who's dumb idea it was to bring these things into our lives? I'll be ordering another package!ORIGINAL REVIEW: I bought these to put on top of my 24" X 48" aquarium that has a hinged, screen cover framed in lightweight aluminum and houses my 3 yr old Axolotl (Mexican) Salamander, Lilla, (love her to pieces!). A few months ago, we got a kitten....or he got us, wandered into our rural farm place.....and, of course, he soon noticed Lilla and was on top of the tank every chance he got. I tried a cat deterrent auto spray can that quit working almost immediately and a carpet runner I had on hand, turned upside down so that the little "stay-in-place" grab-spikes were facing up. That KIND OF discouraged him, but not on those days when he was very determined and sassy. He'd just "grin and bear it" and there he'd be, seeming to taunt both me and Lilla! They also blocked all the light and air from the top and were butt-ugly.I found these mats on Amazon and ordered this particular pkg vs a roll because the squares seemed like they'd be easier to handle (and they are very easy to use) and they were a good buy for the money. I'd also have extras to use in other places where I want to keep animals away.To cover the top of the aquarium, I used three full mats plus three others cut down to a smaller size (easy to do), 6 total mats, connected by the little hook and holes that are on all 4 sides of each mat (2 on each side). These mats solved my problem 100%, PERFECTLY! One time up, just as quickly off, and all salamander watching is now done from the floor! Not only that, the mats are custom-sized to the screen top and the black color of the mats looks nice with the black trimmed aquarium and screen cover, so they actually look nice.....well, they aren't ugly, anyway. They are VERY light weight, so no need to worry about them being too heavy for the screen, and I can see through them, down into the tank, which I couldn't with the "clear" carpet runner that wasn't actually clear. They work so well, we can leave the cat in the house unchaperoned, which we never dared do before.I docked one star because the little connectors are very fragile and break off very easily. Several of the squares came with at least one torn off and I lost a couple more just taking the squares apart. (They come stacked.) Of course, the squares can be connected with zip ties or twist ties, it's just more convenient to use the attached connectors if they don't rip off.

I was driven to my wit's end by an issue with my sweet Maggie cat. When she had a kidney infection, she started pooping, and then also peeing during the night on the floor by my piano (which I play often since I am a church musician). I got her treatment at the vet and she got better, but the behavior did not change. I put a plastic shower curtain under the piano, then sprinkled the area with a product meant to neutralize odors, then straight baking soda, then I put small branches and tree bark around the area to make it uncomfortable for her to walk on (it looked ridiculous). She is the sweetest most affectionate kitty, but I was really starting to lose my patience with her. I was given an Amazon gift card for Christmas, so I went looking for a product to help with my dilemma. I put all 10 mats around the piano so Maggie couldn't get anywhere near it without stepping on the plastic spiky things. They are medium hard plastic, but they would definitely NOT feel good to paws. I never saw any blood or cuts on her paws so I think the mats dissuaded her but did not injure her. I have not seen any evidence of pee or poop anywhere except the litter box since I put the mats down!!!! This is one of the most positive, happy, and satisfied reviews I have ever written for a product, and I highly recommend this simple solution. Check the size of the mats to make sure you are getting as much as you need for the area.

My 1-year-old cat digs dirt out of all my potted plants. It works like a charm to stop her. I cut up the scat mat into smaller pieces and placed several onto the top layer of dirt. The black plastic mat blends in well with the dirt, so it's not unsightly.This product did NOT work on the kitchen counters. First of all, they're pretty sharp, and you have to cover every square inch of countertop edge (trust me - read below), which makes it a headache to use your kitchen countertops in any kind of routine way. You don't realize how well your Tshirt or a kitchen towel snags on this stuff, sending all the connected scat mats to the floor.The bigger problem - other than despising the scat mats on my kitchen counters - is that my cat learned quickly how to jump onto the ittiest, tiniest, little edge of the counter, barely touch the mat, and bound OVER the entire scat mat towards the backsplash. I even tried placing the mats so that they extended a little beyond the countertop edge. No go. I used these for several months, but no matter how I laid them out on the counter, she figured out how to get around them.In summary: worked well for my potted plants, but didn't work for kitchen countertops.

I have a few stray cats in my backyard that I feed on a regular basis. The only downside is that they love to climb onto my split unit HVAC and do their business and dirty it up. I love the cats but I don't particularly enjoy the mess they leave. This Deterrent Pad does the job perfectly! I laid 3-4 on top of the units and held them together with some duct tape. After that, the strays stopped climbing on top of them on their own. In the past, I would put citrus soaked cotton balls to deter them which only lasted a week before the scent faded away. On top of that, I had to purchase odor remover for the 1-2 strays that sprayed on the wall. I wish I had found this product much sooner. I can still enjoy the furry visitors and not have them leave a mess for me.

Absolutely works great, cats stay out of the garden. Will need to order more for next year crops.

I got this product to put under Christmas tree to train 3 yr. old cat to not mess with the tree. The points are sharp and I was worried it may hurt her but had not seen that in any of the reviews. It did work. She is very stubborn so at one point, she walked very quickly on it to the center under the tree--only once. It didn't hurt her or make her bleed which was my biggest concern. Once she jumped over it to get under the tree but when I wasn't paying attention, she lost interest. After a week or so, I removed them and she still didn't mess with the tree :) I'm going to use these in my garden this year! They are awkward to work with because they kind of stick to each other and spikes are uncomfortable, so it's a little bit of work to put them together in whatever configuration you choose. I used 2 boxes to have enough to cover tree area. I'm happy with purchase though, as they did work; and look forward to stopping animals from eating my Hosta plants!

We use clay and clean it daily. All is now well thanks to these scat mats...

After my 6 year old housecat escaped he was a completely different cat on his return.He has always been a territorial cat where if you leave the bed unattended or anything material on the sofa he will strike.However he started to target the sofa x3 times a day without anything on it. It being a leather sofa it was difficult to clean and we spent so much money on enzyme cleaners etc and even a hydrophobic throw to discourage him.We were going to ban him from the living room altogether but decided to buy these spikes which had mixed reviews. In the spot he was targeting I cut the strip in two and placed half on back of the sofa and the other portrait on the bottom with a puppy pad underneath.I also placed a shallow tray with a puppy pad in it at first on the sofa but have been gradually moving this further away. Anyway it's been over 2 weeks now and he has not soiled the sofa. I don't like how the spikes look amd don't want to come across as mean mother but this is the only thing that has worked and they have not injured themselves on them.So if you are at the end of your tether seriously give these a go.*Update. After a month or so I've been able to remove the spikes, he doesn't pee anymore where he shouldn't!

Después de muchos años decidí poner pasto en el jardín y mis perritas felices, al poco tiempo decidieron hacer pozos por todos lados, así que opté por comprar este producto. Muy fácil de instalar, me gustó que los piquitos no lastiman sus patitas solo les es incomodo tocarlos y dejan en paz la zona donde los coloqué, al poco tiempo recuperé mi jardín. El único problema es que son algo frágiles y si los pisas se rompen con facilidad, fuera de eso estoy contento con el producto y mi jardín también.

These Mats are brilliant, since we scattered them in the areas where the cats seem to go, we haven't had any trouble and you can cut them to any size you want, and when laid they don't move and the colour blend's into the soil colour so they are inconspicuous. Would definitely recommend.
