After trying so many times with different ice ball setups I was about to give up. I bought this thing and BAM! First try, perfect glass like ice balls. I don't what better thing to say about i Follow the instructions, be patient, and they come out perfect. It's a little bit of effort for an amazing result. p.s. the frosted look in the picture is just from the air on the surface , it goes away after a couple minutes as they warm a little. I got so excited I forgot to take a picture before dropping them in our glasses.

Itโs not a fool proof crystal clear ice ball maker. Made it twice so far, both times using boiled water that cooled down to lukewarm temperature. First time I filled it to the designated line, froze for 24 hours and when I opened it, it wasnโt fully frozen. (Lesson learnt: look out for ice forming around the cover and shake a little to ensure no water sloshing) Second time I froze it for almost 30 hours instead. It was properly frozen but one cavity did not fill fully even though I filled the right about of water. (Lesson learnt: might have trapped an air bubble as the mould was lowered resulting in incomplete filling of the cavity. Should stick a toothpick/skewer in and move it around to pop any air bubbles). Will try a third time, hopefully itโs perfect. The resultant ball is definitely clear.

For sure, there will be a bit of a learning curve to get them to be perfect, but rest assured, the ice balls can turn out beautifully. My first attempt resulted in 2/3's of the ball, i.e. not a complete ball, as I did not fill enough - I did use cooled-down boiled water. The second attempt with tap water - beautiful round balls - but not perfectly clear. 3rd attempt resulted in perfection with boiled water. It does take 24 hours to make the ice and does take 10-15 to melt enough to pull the contraption apart. 5 starts for value to money at this point, assuming the contraption does not crack. The picture does not do the ice justice for clarity - but when in a drink the ice loses that frosting you see.

The Berlinzo clear ice ball maker is totally awesome and a great conversation starter. The process takes approximately 24 hours to be completed, but once done you have 2 crystal clear ice balls, and two nicely formed ice squares in the base of the unit itself. The unit itself in very durable and flexible. To separate the base of the unit from the water reservoir can be a little tricky, after removing the ice balls I turned the unit upside down and run a butter knife underneath the lip on the reservoir and the base to break the seal in order to remove the two nicely sized ice squares in the base of the unit. I think it was a good price and I would highly recommend purchasing one.
