Can you check update via the app if you away

If you have a data connection via wifi or gsm and the dog with you then yes. You cannot check if you are away from the dog because you need a Bluetooth connection between the Fitbark and your phone. The Fitbark is great!

Would this be suitable for using as a cat gps tracker in UK?

No this is not a gps tracker. It just tests activity levels and sleep

could i still conect with the fitbark when at work or is it close range just bluetooth?

It's close range Bluetooth. However, if you add a Fitbark Wi-Fi base station then the Fitbark syncs to it and I believe the info can be accessed remotely. It's worth asking Fitbark customer service, they are VERY helpful.

How long does the battery last for?

I bought the FitBark 2 in March and have just recharged the battery so about 5 months.
