Now here is one remake that really works. This is a beautifully made and acted period film with a great cast. The real star is, of course, the dog. The two big names among the cast are Peter O'Toole, who gives a very nice performance as the very aristocratic and rather stern but not unkindly duke and grandfather of the girl Heather, and Peter Dinklage who appears as the travelling showman Rowlie. Alongside them, many established British and Irish actors round out the cast. The two child actors playing the working class boy Sam and the duke's granddaughter are very good in what is the first feature film for both of them.The story is full of heart breaking moments, both for the young boy Sam and to a much greater extent for the dog Lassie. To make ends meet, Sam's parents have to sell their son's beloved dog Lassie to a wealthy aristocrat (Peter O'Toole) who wants the magnificent animal as a pet for his granddaughter and as an addition to his kennels. When Lassie is brought to Scotland, she pines for her old home and her previous owners and when the duke's cruel kennelman abuses her, she escapes and embarks on a perilous journey home, all the way back to Yorkshire. Sensitive viewers and young children may find some scenes upsetting. However, if you watch the film to the end, you will be rewarded with a satisfying end to the story.The DVD is excellent with a very good picture and clear sound. English subtitles are available for those who need them. Also included are numerous extra features. There is a lot of material explaining in great detail how the animal stunts were filmed. This is a Scottish story so it was wonderful to see a British version rather than an American one. I enjoyed it very much and the actors were magnificent.

Lassie Wie oft wurde der Verfilmt? Schon einige male. Der Film Lassie Kehrt zurück ist eine Neuverfilmung von 2007. Ein schöner Film für die ganze Familie. Schön ist die Landschaftliche Kulisse England und Schottland, ohne Technischen Tricks. Es sind sehr gute Schauspieler mit dabei, wie Peter O'Tole, Samantha Morton , John Lynch. Hester Odgers. Auch die beiden Kinder haben ihre Rolle gut Gespielt . Joe Carraclough Gespielt von Jonathan Mason. Jonathan Mason Spielte auch in den Irischen Familienfilm Große Rennen mit. Ich kann den Film Lassie kehrt zurück mit Besten Gewissen Empfehlen.

This British movie was made in 2005 and follows the plot of the 1943 original movie "Lassie Come Home" based on the 1940 Eric Knight novel. Normally I do not care for re-makes of excellent original works, but this is one of a few notable exceptions.
