BloodRayne: The Third Reich (Unrated Director's Cut + Digital Copy)

amazing potential that falls flat
"BloodRayne: The Third Reich" is a fairly mild 2010 film of vampire genre that has nude lesbian cunnilingus, several open displays of bordello sweater meat, a ninja style woman who eviscerates enemies via swords or knives, and has a very interesting version of an optional way for beheading a vampire. The gore is not all that impressive for a seasoned veteran of any category of violent films, and the nudity more than likely is the part more for adult viewing than is the violence or gore. There's some occasional vulgar language, but nothing seems overdone except for the inclusion of Hitler's regime (German soldiers and German officers speaking flawless English with no accent or brogue whatsoever) and World War II time period, with some compelling images of anti-Semite prejudice, animus to the point of misogyny, and not much depth for the newcomer to be introduced by explanation to the BloodRayne theme. The lead protagonist is Natassia Malthe, as BloodRayne, the dhampir. The creepiest thing about this film is Clint Howard, who has been in films, TV series, and the theater since the 1950's (over 200 production titles for his appearances). He plays an egocentric, myopic, experimentation surgeon in "BloodRayne: The Third Reich." But there's really not much overall substance here for a contemporary offering, and I'm guessing censorship must have left the majority of the good stuff on the cutting room floor. The villains are easy to hate, and the heroine easy to appreciate; but for this to be acclaimed as the best of the three BloodRayne films, writer Michael Nachoff and director Use Boll need some serious creativity here. They have incredibly beautiful sets to work with (filmed in Croatia), and beautiful women too. This film cannot be given more than 3 stars, and that is generously given based upon the gratuitous displays of eye candy. Ten million dollar production budgets don't buy much for films these days, but I'm guessing Natassia Malthe has a promising future in her acting career (I know I'd like to see her again). I'm a visual fan of the BloodRayne genre, and have no interest in the books or video games, therefore my opinion of the film is independent of any long term multi-exposure to otherwise provided details separate from the DVD inside this artwork wrapped plastic case. I have to agree with a few reviews I've seen that say this film is destined for B-movie cult fan base bins for campy stuff that mixed the beautiful with the ugly, the pleasure with the torture, and fairly good acting with really, really horrible acting. Could have been great if the mix was kept closer together instead of the extreme ends of the spectrum. Horse feces and perfectly outdoor grilled steak side-by-side on the same plate don't make for an appetizing meal.

Go in expecting nothing and you'll be fine
Point Breakdown:+1 --- A point is given because vampires (the non-sparkly variety) are pretty cool monsters+1 --- Earned a second point for the varied sets and use of roughly era-appropriate props/vehicles. Obviously Rayne on the verge of bursting out of her top in every scene isn't fitting with the other costumes, but we'll just attribute it to being vampire cultural attire.+1 --- Nazis just make great bad guys because there's so many ways to kill them without remorse!+1 --- Wasn't expecting the brothel scene, but it's also not Natassia Malthe's first on screen+1 --- Being a video game adaptation, I dread to think the depths this movie could have fallen to had it not fallen in Uwe Boll's experienced hands (sarcasm - this is the handicap point he usually gets)Overall: 5 pointsDetractions from score: -2-1 --- Lost one star for the writing. I'd rather be forced to watch the Shrek Broadway musical (again).-1 --- Gore is befitting or below the level of a mid-80s slasher flick, case in point a dollop of watery jam being sprayed out of Rayne's shoulder onto the Commandant's face in the opening minutes. Action follows a similar suit, with a room full of enemies faffing about to attack one at a time before doing cartoonishly wild flips and spins from a simple knife cut.If you're looking for action do yourself a favor and go watch "Who Killed Captain Alex: Uganda's First Action Movie" instead (it's even free on youtube under the Wakaliwood channel) because a couple of people with a camcorder just put this $10mil budgeted movie to shame.

Sucks
I watched it with some friends and the random full hardcore sex scene made all the boys tent up, it made the funeral after really awkward

Camp at it's best
Exactly what I expected. OK, it COULD be a little campier, but a GREAT effort. I knew I had picked a winner, when in the very first scene you see period appropriate German uniforms, appropriately costumed resistance fighters and then Rayne, popping out of her skin tight low cut top, tight pants and long skin tight leather over coat with a crazy leather cap on her head with bright red hair extension on each side of her head going after NAZIs with a couple of swords! A totally gratuitous soft core lesbian sex scene and hetero sex scene. Sorry, no gay male sex here. Silly and predictable plot with even sillier dialog. Maybe it was written in Romanian, and then translated into English? Lots of opportunity for great torture scenes that were passed up. Good bordello scene, but again missed opportunities galore for bazaar gratuitous sex scenes. Minimal gore for a vampire, war, slasher flick. Acting? Well who needs acting in a film like this.

BloodRayne: The Third Reich
Much more in keeping with the videogame upon which this franchise is based, this third adventure takes the action to Nazi Europe of World War Two, and for fans of these films, of which apparently there aren't too many, this is indeed a good one. Uwe Boll's BLOODRAYNE movies are very much like modern-day HAMMER horror films, some better than others, and this latest R-rated, bloody spectacle offers all thrills possible. As far as the videogame origins, this movie excels at recreating the look and style of the game itself, and although the story has been altered once again, the spirit of the videogame (finally!) is alive and well. Michael Pare (remember THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT?) returns from the last BloodRayne, this time playing a completely different character, and the sexy Natassia Malthe is quite good as Rayne herself, no longer the "new girl" in the role. Unfortunately, if you are not a fan or player of the BLOODRAYNE videogame, chances are this thing will not appeal to you. Those interested, however, can delight in seeing the sexiest, best BLOODRAYNE yet, blending Nazis and vampires into a thrilling mix. Keeps it short, too, with a running time under 90 minutes.

.."FUN VAMPIRE NAZI HORROR.."
PLOT...Rayne fights against the Nazis in Europe during World War II, encountering Ekart Brand, a Nazi leader whose target is to inject Adolf Hitler with Rayne's blood in an attempt to transform him into a dhampir and attain immortality. If like me you find Uwe Boll movies a bit of guilty pleasure then be sure to check out the third instalment of the bloodrayne series, its massively fun chock full of bloody violence and gore on a decent budget, plenty of nudity and some lesbianism from lead actress Natassia Malthe as rayne who is a very lovely lady, the rest of the cast is ok and is mainly there for vampire fodder, Brendan Fletcher (Rampage, another Boll movie) also stars, the movie has cheesy dialogue and acting most part but its all great fun especially as is set more against a Nazi background like the game, this is worth picking up for some cheap thrills.Blu-ray German splendid films Blu-ray has a decent pictureComes with the 2D and 3D versions of the movie UNCUT, Region FREE ABC, 80-mins, made in 2010.Plays fully in English language, Features include a making of 28-mins in English and an interview and trailer and audio commentary.Comes in a slim clear case with reversible sleeve.

Der schlechteste Uwe-Boll-Film
Zunächst: Ich finde Uwe Boll durchaus sympathisch.

Tja was soll man sagen, Uwe Boll hat seinem Namen mal wieder alle Ehre gemacht!
