Q: I have this but it always turns off when the dial is on the low side. Is this normal?

I second "kwmar". The dial thermostats on these types of heaters are junk. I had a Lasko for years that recently died; the only way I could effectively warm my 10x10 bedroom (and myself) was to run it continuously on max, manually adjusting as needed. The thermostat never seemed to work right; it would click off and stay off leaving me freezing until I adjusted it, or run for over an hour overheating me until I shut it it off. These are good, cost effective heaters but you have to know the trick to using them.

Q: For safety reasons, should I unplug the heater from the outlet at night?

I don't - it was purchased for my bedroom at night. I do lay it on its face if I'm leaving the house. I do love this heater and feel it is very safe.

Q: How do you make the heater quieter? It’s so loud in my bedroom.

If the item doesn't work properly the only obvious answer I can give would be to contact the seller in order to return the item or get a replacement.
