It worked, the proof is in the...
I started hearing that clawing, shuffling, "rearranging furniture" sound that no homeowner wants to hear in the ceiling above my office in between the two floors about 3 weeks ago. In the past, I was in pest control, and I knew it wasn't going to go away- but I hoped for about a week, hearing it every afternoon when I would get home from work. Knowing that rats have to move outside for food and water, I knew the most likely ingress and egress were through the weep holes in the base of my brick exterior. Rats the size of kittens can compress their skeletons and pass through a hole the width of a #2 pencil, so don't ignore even the smallest crevices in your exterior walls as potential entry points. So, I gave these a shot, and stuffed a few pieces in each weep hole on that side of the house and a few loose along the ground behind hedges my dog could not get to...after all, she is pretty much a big rat. Day one, still hearing my unwanted guest. Same on day two and three..then, on the fourth day...nothing...and the fifth, sixth and seventh.. I was cautiously optimistic. Then today...day 8... the smell. I know it all to well. The hope is that the rat(s) will die outside the home, but that is pretty rare as they spend more time inside than out. Bottom line, this did what it said it would do. My only complaint, not worthy of pulling a star, is apparently it can not be sold in smaller than 4lb bags- I am guessing some kind of regulation, not the manufacturers fault. If I thought I would ever use 4 lbs of this, I would move out of my home and let the rats have it- I only used a few ounces. I mean there is probably 500 pellets in the bag and I only used about 15. I'll live with the smell, esp since I am somewhat nose blind having worked in the pet loss industry for a decade. And, it is better than the alternative of having a rat family do thousands of dollars in damage or paying a pest professional hundreds (and probably dealing with the smell). The line the PCPs like to use is "the poison makes them thirsty, so they go out of the house and die"... Its a half truth at best. The traps they use outside to avoid them dying in the home work great for mice, but most rats are too smart to enter them for the bait, so if you know you are dealing with rats, and not mice, then loose pellets are the best chance in my opinion and just be ready to deal with the smell for a while.

squirrels
We had a major problem with squirrels hiding in the engine block of our cars. I did not want to hurt the squirrels, but after $1500 in damage, I was done. I put out 15 pellets in a little pile in the flower bed next to the drive way. The next day, ALL the pellets were gone. We still kept seeing squirrels so put some more next to the flower bed. The pellets are small enough that the squirrels stuff their cheeks with them and take them away. Finally our squirrel problem is done. Be advised that this product attracts the animals to take the poison, so you do not want to put it IN your car or engine block, just near the car so they take the bait and bail. I still see squirrels down the street, but they avoid our property now, which is how I want it. Excellent product. be advised, dogs are attracted to the fish smell, so put it somewhere pets are not permitted.

Works but slow
Works but for me it took a little over 3.5 months to see results. Purchased in March and finally saw 6 large field rats around my shed and chicken coop dead. Poison seen eating through their stomachs. Overall it works just the wait made it seem like it wasnโt working.

Works better than anything on the market
Was fighting field mice. Used sticky pads, poison from stores, but they reproduced so quick, that it seemed hopeless. A coworker told me about this product. It worked so well, I haven't had any for a year. I make sure I put out more in the barns and outbuildings now and then to keep them from invading the house. You have to keep it from your pets. I put mine in the attic, and outbuildings and they were all gone within two weeks. They are drawn to this product because it is fish flavored. They love it.

It did nothing so far :(
I rarely low-rate stuff. This time though an urgent need (to get rid of the pests) clashed with a real disappointment. We got a bag of poison a month ago. One star because the rats were crazy about those green balls and the trays with those had to be refilled every couple of days. These are packrats, rodents that I believe had to be affected by the poison like others. Yes I'm aware they store a lot of food but they do have to eat in the meantime, don't they? So the five days had passed and we tried to be patient... meaning lathering all the corners with undiluted peppermint oil and occasionally spraying it in the face of the pests that kept growing bolder and sometimes would run straight at us. The rat trap didn't work either. The beasts were too fast to just hit with a poker... it went on and on. Seems like there were only two of them but trust me they can ruin a whole household. One evening I was chasing one of them with the spray bottle. It jumped into the speaker, and my partner grabbed some notebooks to block two holes in it. We carried the whole thing outside and put rocks on top of those. After a week the scratching was over and he threw the dead thing out. At this point I don't give a rat's rear about any "humane" way to get rid of them. Because the second rat is still there, up until this day, causing trouble :( The bag of poison is long gone and the rat is still alive. How many bags will it take to kill just one? I don't know where the exact glitch is. I was already feeling a tad anxious when other reviewers warned about the dreaded five days before the poison kicks in. But a whole month and no result is truly frustrating. There aren't many pests, just these two. I don't want this place to be in shambles because of the one stupid packrat left which no one is able to destroy. Patience doesn't feel appropriate. Ick.
