The Ultimate Super Weenie Hut General for Aroids
So to be completely honest, I got these for aroids—pothos, philodendron, monstera, after the Root Rot Massacre of 2025. As someone who was going from carnivorous plants and succulents, the crazy ends of the spectrum as to watering, to aroids… it was one death after another after another. And when I tell you I fell in LOVE with these golden crocodile philos and was DETERMINED… I stumbled on the internet to the concept of using orchid pots with the chunky mix to help air flow to the roots. Now, I’ve also learned not to immediately repot big box store plants and wash their roots and effectively kill them that way—but that was only part of the equation. These pots have allowed me to rehab these aquarium props I’ve had to do, and for the first time in over a month I’m seeing new growth (I’m going from aquarium prop to sphagnum then to dirt)! Having holes allows super great drainage, and because they’re clear I can see the water as it dries and if I’ve missed a spot watering. They’re great! Just wish they had larger sizes so I could stuff all my aroids in there!

Fit well in small clay pots. Diameter is slightly smaller than 4".
These fit well in my little clay pots. They are smaller than typical orchid pots. Also, they are a little smaller in diameter than the 4" listed in the description. However, since they fit in the pots fine, I don't think that matters as long as you are aware that these are not the size of traditional / typical orchid pots. If you were to buy these to fit in the normal orchid pots, they will be too small around and just sink to the bottom of the pot. These work well to line the small clay pots though. Personally, I would use the clay saucers I buy with the small clay pots rather than the plastic ones that come with this set. I don't really have a use for those. I view these as pot liners rather than actual pots; I would not use them by themselves; so, the plastic saucers that come with them don't have a function for me. Same situation as far as the diameter. I personally wouldn't use these as pots, I use them as pot liners. That allows drainage which is important for orchids so their roots don't sit in water; that is why I wanted to get these pots to use as pot liners. If, however, you are going to use these just as pots themselves, then the specific diameter doesn't matter because they don't have to fit a pot. Functionally, you can do that with just these pots and saucers, but personally I don't like to have plastic pots showing in my house; I use clay or ceramic pots or similar for the pot and saucers (if applicable) that show with the plastic pot liner on the inside.

The right pots for your orchids
My orchids seem to be happy in these pots. The roots get plenty of air and drainage and the saucer is big enough to keep the overflow water from damaging whatever they are sitting on. The bases are wide enough to hold up most of my orchids, but the really tall ones are going to become tippy just because they get so much weight so high from the roots. They could be a little better if the saucers snapped to the bottoms of the pots to help keep them stable, but that's being very picky. Overall, these are a good buy and will make nice homes for your orchids.

Perfect for orchids, great value
These are exactly what an orchid would like to live in, I think! There are plenty of holes for the roots to get air, and the holes are shaped like flowers. They’re pretty enough you don’t need to put these inside another pot, so you can keep an eye on the root health. These are on the small side, so eventually you may need to repot your orchid, but since you have a clear view of the roots you will have a good idea when the time is getting close. They have excellent drainage on the bottom, and have matching saucers. I used one for an orchid that came in a pot way too small, and am saving the rest for when my orchids have babies! These are great to have on hand for repotting or for potting new orchids. The price is great, and these don’t need to be put in an additional pot unless you really want to.
