This rod doesn't come with a striker so you'll have to have one already. I used the striker from another rod and the baby really gives off the sparks. This one must be of the "soft/softer" type as it has a very different feel than the other one I bought at the same time. Love the paracord handle. It really helps to hold on to it. The rod is long and thick and easy to strike.

This thing throws sparks. It is a tool of great quality. I'm sure I will have this rod for the next few years. If you have your rod on a leather sheath, get some shock cord or thin bungee and replace that paracord. On its own, the paracord works fine, I didn't enjoy it as it got in the way occasionally. No big deal though.

Don't leave home without this rod! I love the paracord bracelet to go with this great fire starter. It is thick to last, and lights fires so easily! I use it with cotton balls covered in Vaseline. Just tear the ball open to expose the dry cotton, use a knife to spark this baby onto the cotton, and you have a 4" flame for 2-3 minute. Perfect!

Handy, small, and very effective. I like the paracord braided wrist strap to help keep up with it. There are a lot of fires to be started from this firesteel because of its size.

Excellent! Produces a great spark... which is what we need! Orange paracord makes for quick identification. Large ferro rod makes for easier handling with cold hands.

It is just as advertised. I wanted one with a little beef to it, this one fits the bill.
