Rosemary Gladstar's Medicinal Herbs: A Beginner's Guide

This is a great book if it's your first purchase in the world of herbalism... Be warned though that many of the herbs are "western" herbs though, not readily available in India.

Excellent book

Rosemary Gladstar is a phenomenal Medicinal Herbalist with an excellent sense of humour. Her knowledge is outstanding as is her ethos to look after the wild plants used for herbal medicine. This all shines through in all her books and this one is no exception. Her recipes are great and I have already made a few things. Her recipes to help with cold and flu are extremely helpful. When the flu made its rounds in our house, I followed her recipe and instructions, while hubby used the junk bought from the shops that he has always relied on. As I'm disabled and don't go out, he brought the bug home, and I usually suffer for a week or so longer than he does and often end up with bronchitis or pneumonia. This round, I was better 5 days faster than him, and even have him converted to my herbal ways now. If you aren't sure about her recipes before buying her book, check out her YouTube videos with recipes.

This book is incredible for beginners. The detail of each herb is amazing and you can tell this woman knows her stuff which made me feel confident as a beginner trying her recipes. Highly recommend for those first starting out.

Possibly the best book on this topic (I'm a harsh reviewer hence the 4 stars) that clearly describes how to make tinctures etc.. It is an easy read and not complicated. There are certain things missing, such as using aloe vera to 'seal' small profusely bleeding wounds(have done this myself), but in general is quite comprehensive in its discussion of the subject matter at hand. Recommended and doubly so if you are into preparedness and shtf books.

A lovely gentle herbal written by a true herbalist with lots of common sense uses for the herbs listed, most of which can be grown in the UK and harvested fresh from your garden or window box. Or bought fresh / dry from the supermarket.

Love love love this book, just embarking on my herbal Apothecary journey. I've watched YouTube videos of Rosemary's, this book is one I know I will rerefer to again & again.
