If so, does the pump have to be on for it to work?** A: The pump must be off, the water must be still. Using a syringe, squirt a small amount of dye where you suspected a leak, one spot at a time. The dye will dissipate very slowly if no leak. A leak will suck the dye into the spot very quickly, you will see immediately. Around water jets seem to be the most common and and places where the surface is chipped or cracked may also be suspect. If you find a leak, use a small amount of pool epoxy putty to stop the leak. Putty also available on Amazon. **Q: How would it work if you have a sand pump?** A: it is a liquid dye hat flows toward the leak. you would be putting it in your pool where you suspect the leak is. if it is in sand pump the leak should be visible outside the pump. **Q: So how come the price went from $8.05 to $13.95 overnight? We were waiting until the injector pen was back in stock.** A: I am not the seller so I don't have a clue but you are better off to buy this and just refill the pen when it becomes empty, you will save money in the long run! **Q: Will the blue dye be visibly blue if mixed with a cup of water? I did A LOT of leak testing in my pool yet I probably didn't use up one twentieth of the dye that came in the 8 ounce bottle. But you know what, it was so reassuring to know that I could keep double-checking the same areas over and over for leaks without worrying about possibly running out of dye. Some other products include a much smaller amount or even a prefilled syringe(s), but I think paying for the 8 ounces is worth it for the peace of mind in knowing you'll have enough and won't run out. It's better to go into a leak check with plenty of product -- one less thing to worry about. The product itself worked like a charm and was perfectly visible and had the right viscosity to work as I expected. We had tried food coloring but it dissipates too quickly in the water. This really shows up, and doesn't take much product. We just used a small syringe we had for medicine dosing. It took some time because we didn't know where to start to look for the leak but persistence paid off and we found a hole in our pool liner behind the steps. Plenty of dye in this container for years worth of testing. It's a shame that seller can't package this size container with a syringe (an item that costs him only pennies). But I suppose it's more profitable to get buyers to first buy a syringe containing a couple of tablespoons of dye at a relatively high price, and then have them come back and buy a whole bottle of dye. So the "setup" to properly do multiple tests for many years costs $20+.
