Disappointed
I kept thinking of the Claxton fruitcake I enjoyed as a child, so was happy to find a 1 lb. one on Amazon. It arrived promptly, sooner than expected and slightly smooshed as it was only packaged in a slightly padded envelope...no protective cardboard. My expectations were high, and I am sorry to say that I was disappointed. It did not taste like what I remember. It didn't have as many pecans as I remembered and the ones in it were not all good. It was mostly raisins and little kind of hard yellow bits of something. There were a few candied cherries and a very few green bits of something. So I can cross that off my list of holiday treats to find. I tossed it out, but wish I had thought to put it out for birds as someone else did.

Claxton is THE quintessential fruit cake for the holidays!
My father and mother have loved the Claxton fruit cake for years. It was always the fruit cake you would find at holiday time in many grocery stores for years. Sadly, the Claxton fruit cake is hard to find at grocery stores. Often a less delicious brand is hanging out where Claxton fruit cakes should be. I got this for my father and he is 89 with some short term memory loss. When I watched him bite into a piece I could tell that wonderful memories were flooding into his head. I wish the price was a little lower but since this is a once a year treat with lots of positives then I say it is well worth it!More positives:Expiration date was a few months into the future.Arrived in the time frame I expected (Prime shipping, yay!).You will never hear, "you ruined the holidays!" with this fruitcake.

Get the cellophane wrapper
This has been my husband's go-to fruitcake for years. The BOXED version, however, was half dried out. Amazon gave us a refund and I decided to reorder. The second one we got was not BOXED, it was the normal cellophane wrapper and it was perfect. First picture is boxed one showing dried out section. Second picture is cellophane wrapped one showing it's nice and moist. So this review would be five stars for second one.

See Pictures! Trusted Claxton Brand that has been around for years! Moist!
A childhood memory of the Claxton Fruit Cake that my grandmother use to bring home for us when she returned from vacation. During the recent Thanksgiving holiday, my mom (80) asked if I could try to find her the Claxton brand. Yes, it has been around that long and it hasn't changed a bit. I was able to pull out my phone and order her one within minutes. She was thrilled to receive an old family favorite just two days later. Yes, it was the same great taste and size cake that she remembered! Trust me, if you can please my mom, you have really outdone yourself! The price point is a bit high. I knew I had seen them in stores for less, but where else can you send a gift for $8 and make someone's day? My only reason for 4 stars versus is the price point. They usually retail for under $5. See pictures of the box it came in! I can't show you the selfie she took while eating it. She would get really mad.

Real bad!
I bought the 1lb fruitcake......the thing was horrible. Very crumbly and wasn't moist at all. I guess when you purchase a food item like this via Amazon it depends on how long they had it stored in their warehouse. I've noticed this with Amazon as things could be sitting on their shelves way too long. I tried the Nom Nom Delights fruitcake on here as well as the Trappist Abbey. They both were fantastic tasting and very moist....loved them but pretty pricey. Just thought I'd try the Claxton this time. Big mistake. (I also wanted to add that I couldn't chew several pieces of the fruit....hard as a rock!)

Best commercially made cake I have ever eaten
Fruitcake is one of those things you either love or hate. Unfortunately many people hate it because they have only encountered bad fruitcake. My grandmother used to make a half-dozen cakes every year as Christmas gifts so, to me, fruitcake is just as big a part of the holiday as Santa or a tree. Over the years I have tried many commercially-made cakes but have found most of them wanting. This one, on the other hand, tastes a lot like the ones I grew up loving. The only thing different is that Grandma used to soak her cakes in rum and brandy. As a kid this limited the amount my folks would let me eat.

some I'm one of those nut cases who actually loves fruitcake and love the green citron in the fruit cake
Ok, some I'm one of those nut cases who actually loves fruitcake and love the green citron in the fruit cake, yeh, try and find that anymore. So, years ago, Von's grocery stores used to carry a brand (can't remember the name) which was just about perfection green citron's and everything, more fruit than cake but I have not been able to find it for years and have tried all sorts of brands, from Jesuit's to Monks, from England to New England and none have been very satisfactory, bland, dry, just blah. I decided to Google and read reviews to see if I could again find a fabulous fruit cake and found the reviews for Claxton so decided to try it, hoping against hope that I would once again be in fruit cake heaven. All I can say is 'Claxton, where have you been all my fruit cake life?'. Moist beyond belief, tons of fruit (yep, green citron too), just the right amount of nuts, deep rich flavor, just plain beyond delicious. Yep, fruit cake heaven to the nth degree.

Sorry, no picture, it was consumed as soon as it arrived.
I ordered this product for myself and I was not disappointed. Fruitcakes are an acquired taste and I acquired a taste for them a long time ago but the rest of my family does not share in my enthusiasm. I am often stuck buying a large cake and most goes to waste. I am diabetic so I cannot over indulge. Claxton's 1 lb. was the perfect size for me. I cut it into 1/4" slices. It lasted about a week in the fridge without really altering the flavor or texture. I stored in a ziploc bag and it kept very well. The cake was full of fruit and nuts. I kept from adding sweetener to my usual coffee and it paired very well with the cake. This cake satisfied my craving and exceeded my expectations. I plan to make it a tradition and order one for the holidays from now on.
