I received this lens on Saturday night and shot with it on Sunday. I am happy with its performance. Good build quality, light to hold and fast focussing.

Good lens for the price tag. Used this lens during my recent wild life photography with good images of birds and mammals. There is one design flaw in this lens, the zooming ring gets locked resulting in not able to move the zooming ring smoothly but it requires simple technique to release the zoom ring. I received the lens well packaged by the manufacturer but the seller hasn’t filled the warranty card with the details

I primarily do bird photography and I am currently using the Canon 100-400 Mk II lens. I was looking for a lens with longer reach, so after doing a lot of research, decided to buy this item.The piece delivered was brand new, and was shipped well in time.However, when I took a few test shots at 150mm, 200mm, 300mm, 400mm, 500mm and 600mm, I was shocked to see that the lens won't even focus on the subject correctly. At lower focal lengths it front-focuses and at the telephoto end, it back-focuses. Also, the VC was working very erratic - the image would suddenly jump every few seconds in the view-finder throwing the focus point off the subject. This makes it very difficult to ensure proper subject focus, specially when using Continuous Focus.I corrected the front-focus/back-focus problem using AFMA in the camera; however, the VC was not correctable. When doing an actual field test, I could not make it to even 5% keepers. Off 20 images shot using Continuous Focus, hardly 1 or 2 would be properly focused on the subject, and in the remaining the subject would be way off-focus.The sharpness of the lens is nowhere comparable with the Canon 100-400, even at 400 mm. Not that I wasn't expecting it to be as sharp, but with the price point not being so wide apart (1.5L for the Canon compared to 1L for the Tamron), I definitely expected sharper images than what it was delivering.I am sure the piece I received was faulty, as many of my friends use this lens with higher percentage of keepers; though the issue with the sharpness is a common problem.

I am using this lens for quite sometime now with my Canon. This is really cool lens definitely best in budget lens category:Pros-1. Price2. Amazing pictures in bright daylight3. Focussing is decent4. Locking at any focal length5. VC is really rocksolidCons-1. Sharpness - pictures tend to get soft especially above 400 mm, I never expected them to be super sharp. However, disappointed though. I would suggest always shoot in RAW and sharpen it during PP2. In cloudy sky, bird photography is difficult and it struggles to focus. e.g- I struggled to focus green bee eater sitting in a tree in cloudy day, but as soon as sun came out it quickly focused the bird(within span of 10 mins and bird was sitting there)3. Little heavy4. Dial ring is opposite to typical Canon lenses and it rotates in opposite direction. Nikon users will be happier.Conclusion - it is birders companion who are on budget. Can do almost anything with little compromise on sharpness. Overall amazing lens and a must have, given all manufacturers are focusing on mirrorless cameras nowdays. Don't expect anything like this coming for conventional DSLRs in future.Edit after extensive usage -If one can afford, go for Canon 100-400 IS2. Although , you get 200 mm lesser reach but the quality is incomparable. You shoot in 400 mm and crop, quality will be much better in Canon

Magnífica compra, vendedor muy atento, me respondió con unas dudas del envío.Pese a estar marcado como segunda mano “Muy bien” , el objetivo está prácticamente nuevo, sin marcas , con su embalaje original, bien protegido y en perfectas condiciones. Solo he salido a probarlo un par de horas ,pero es un gran salto (vengo del 70-300 de canon usm II), tengo que acostumbrarme al peso, pero se le nota muy robusto y construido con muy buenos materiales. Estoy encantado. Actualizaré cuando consiga mejores disparos

For what this lens offered at the price point, I was a little skeptical. This is a whole lot of feature to package into one product without sacrificing something major. I have shot exclusively with Canon L lenses in the past and really expect that sort of performance in my gear. I typically use a 400 f/2.8L or 600 f/4L for telephoto work, but I could not take these lenses on my recent Tanzania safari due to size and weight. That being said, I am extremely satisfied with the performance of this lens! The small aperature (f5-6.3) does take a while to get use to, but as long as you keep your shutter speed up, tack sharp images are achievable at long focal lengths. I shot pretty much wide open at 600mm the whole time. I even stacked my 2x Teleconverter on and manual focused in some situations with decent results. The images are a tad fuzzy, but perfectly suitable given the conditions. Photographing wildlife in the plains of the Serengeti from an open top Landcruiser requires some practice. There are endless obstacles (Serengeti means "sea of endless grass" for a reason) to disrupt the AF and constant breezes to shake the lens causing micro blurring. After some practice and set-up changes, the results just blew me away. Tack sharp images from close range to about 50-75 yards were easily obtained. Though you can get pretty close to some wildlife, the expanse of the African plains do keep many things out of range. The small aperature made quick AF on moving subjects difficult, but with more practice this may be achievable. Catching birds in flight is a challenge for slow lenses. That is about the only downside to this lens. Stable platform at 600mm is a must. I would love Tamron to make a straight f/4 or f/5.6 version of this lens at a higher price point.

I purchased the Canon version and a Sigma adapter to connect this lens to my Sony A7 mirrorless full frame. I love it! I can hand hold it at 600mm, but it's not my favorite thing to do....I bet have of the pictures are too blurry to call decent. So anything over 400mm I tripod. The way my setup is, auto focus is worthless. The Sony has a great manual focus feature and I've gotten pretty fast at it. Not sure if I am bird in flight fast, but when my kids are running track and field I can get them running by with a couple of attempts. So-so results indoor. I've tried it at swim meets, and it's OK.Make no mistake, it is a beast to lug around. It's heavy and large enough to be cumbersome. Add in that I like to have it on a tripod it quickly becomes too much to hike long distances with. I'd totally still buy it though! I like up close photography, and that 600mm really allows you to get close at a moderate distance.Added thing to be aware of...people see it and my kids sporting events and assume I am a newspaper photographer or something. You'll get so many comments, you'd better think up a few snappy replies. My favorite has been "Yeah I know, I am just overcompensating" lol
