A New York Times Bestseller! As a part of the acclaimed DC Comics—The New 52 event of September 2011, writer and co-creator of the CW show Supernatural Adam Glass rolls out an all-new team of death-row super villains recruited by the government to take on missions so dangerous–they're sheer suicide! The story begins with the Suicide Squad defeated, imprisoned and being interrogated about their newest mission. Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot and company must make it out alive without revealing who's pulling the strings behind their illegal operations. Who will be the first to crack under the pressure? More importantly will they make it all out alive? Review: Great! - Great visuals. Good read. Review: Loved It - I have been pretty eager to read this one since way back when I first started the New 52 as the SS or Amanda Waller would pop up here and there in the other series I was reading and I didn't have a clue who she/they were. I absolutely loved this!! It was really creepy and with a team of bad guys has stuff going on that you just don't normally find in a superteam book. I must say I am fond of team-ups but since I didn't really know any of these guys except for Harley Quinn as she's appeared in the Batman books I've read to date I wasn't sure how they'd go over with me. It was a bit tough getting used to who was who at first but characters started to stand out and by the end of the book major players are certainly prominent in my mind now. What's pretty cool, but disconcerting also, is that being villains under threat of death for not complying you never know when a team member is going to end up dead and that really changes the dynamics of a read compared to you're usual superhero team when you know everybody is going to be okay unless word gets out somebody "major" is going to die! These guys are viscous though and I have a like/hate feeling for them. The King Shark/Yo-Yo thing really creeped me out!! Harley certainly comes out on top as the main character here and I'm so thrilled to get her complete backstory presented here with her romance with Joker and change into Harley. Also glad to have the extra bits of the Joker's face story added to that whole arc, which I've read, but these little details were missing. Now to find out just exactly how Joker gets his face back, what is up with this Basilisk group and who will comprise the Suicide Squad on the next mission. I purchased the ebook of this when the $1.99 sale was on but I'm fully prepared to continue to buy this series. I think I could possibly like it along the lines of JLD. I guess I like the dark themes and plots!

Very satsifying action pecked story lead by interesting and well developed characters
The first volume of Suicide Squad, was satisfying story and a lot of fun from beginning to end. The writer takes these interesting characters and put them in interesting situations, the way he handles them and has them interacting each with each other made the book all the better for it. It was all done, and satisfying for me as a reader who never picked up or read a suicide squad story. The book takes the time into focus on the interaction and relationships between these characters, while developing these characters, and establishing them on their own all the while telling a fun and action packed comic from start to finish. The book doesn't try to hard to change these characters and make them out to be who they aren't which can be concerning when writing a book about a bunch of bad guys as protagonists and people you root for but at the same time the book isn't afraid to show a different side to these characters where you usually don't get when they are simply being portrayed as the villains in the heroes story which fleshes out these characters and make them all the more interesting to read and follow. I recommend picking these up if you are simply interested in these characters,or even just simply looking for a fun action packed read, with some twists and turns. The writing is solid, with some impressive moments and dabs of compelling themes and some thought provoking moment. The art is great, very beautiful to look at. Really impressed how they handled the art. It takes a second to get used to but it quickly works very well with context of the story and gets better throughout the story. The book definitely finds some momentum towards the end making the following issues all the more exciting to see where they go with this series. I definitely plan on continuing with this series, it was well worth it and I recommended picking this up if you looking to get into the Suicide Squad, its a great place to jump on for the Suicide Squad and comics in general. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed reading this book. It's a lot of fun and it follows interesting and well developed characters. Definitely something to look into.

this one ain't for kids..
I love Harley Quinn; she was the best thing to come out of the Batman Animated Series. Something DC was smart enough to pick up on as they brought her into the comic world. As part of The New 52 reinvention, Harley returns in the Suicide Squad – supervillains coerced into working for the government with a promise of time off their sentences, and nanobombs in their necks. This is not your Golden Age comic and is definitely not for kids. This crazy premise is given FULL measure. I expected the book to be edgy, but it is also gory, brutal and twisted as befitting these characters and their missions. The first mission involves a stadium of civilians infected with some kind of cyber zombie virus. The Squad is tasked with cleaning up the situation by killing everyone in the stadium! This is the sort of mission that no superhero would be willing to undertake. This book is overflowing with violence, but also has a heightened level of unpredictability. Characters die while the plot twists and turns without warning. It’s like a thrill ride. During the first mission, Harley learns that the Joker is dead. He was skinned alive. Normally, she’s “cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs,” as one character describes, but with this information she takes her insanity in a new direction. Along the way, readers get to see how she met and fell in love with her puddin’. Overall, I really enjoyed this first volume of the series. The stories are exciting and don’t hold back. And though this is a team series, Harley is most certainly the star. And I like it that way. Highly recommended.

This team has chemistry (in the Mentos and Diet Coke sense of the word).
About a month ago, I had more or less never heard of the Suicide Squad. When the rumors started flying about the upcoming film, a fellow-albeit-better-informed nerd gave me the quick and dirty synopsis and I was hooked. Flash to present day, Vol. 1 of Glass's N52 run sits just finished on my shelf and I'm a convert. The art is fun, the writing snappy and the team roster is an awesome mix of characters who'd just as likely fight each other than their opponents. You have everything from a reverent theist a la Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler, to King Shark whose vocabulary and temperament is essentially Hollywood's Groot if all he did was beat that guy to death in the passageway. Oh, and Harley. Let's not forget Harley. The book mixes a compelling combination of zany action and over the top plot lines peppered with ultra violence and darkness. Even if it wasn't half price on Amazon right now, I'd definitely recommend picking this one up.

A really fun book!
This book contains the first seven issues of the New 52's Suicide Squad. I found it to be extremly entertaining and a fun read. It is defenitly for adults, as there is some strong sexual situations, and this series is one of the more violent in the DC universe, with people getting eaten alive or ripped into two. Many people die in this series in amazingly terrible ways, I cant help but love it. I felt this book is less about the actual missions, and more about the interactions between the squad. It takes a uber-mega-boss to get the Justice Leauge together, and then all the focus is on defeating the bad guy, but this series is more focused on the teams needs and personalities. I really liked getting to know more about Deadshot, and the relationship between Harley Quinn and the Joker (Chick is crazysauce!) A overall fun read, and I would and have, recommended this book to my friends. Amazing art and a story full of twists and turns is a great combination!

Great "rebirth" of classic DC villians
I liked this graphic novel. Harley Quinn has been changed a bit in the new 52, she's on her own, new costume, and new hairstyle. Still pretty lovable though. I'd say Suicide Squad's main character is Deadshot and Harley Quinn really is the "second" main character. Mostly because while we do follow Harley around (mostly towards the end of the novel) Mainly we follow Deadshot. Other team members come and go but there is always the Diablos whose powers consist of fire related combustion, and Shark King? He's basically a big shark who loves "meat". He reminds me of Killer Croc as a shark. I also like how Amanda Waller is now skinny and almost in her own right pretty tough. (If I remember rightly she used to be more heavy and older. I didn't read many comics with her in it but I'm going off of the Animated shows in the 90's had her look like). Anyways, if you like Harley Quinn and Deadshot you will like this. It's got action and a pretty decent storyline to it. I was disappointed with Harley's Origin story. I thought it was going to be NEW and different you know to fit the "NEW 52" and since it was hyped up by DC when it was coming out in Comic book form. Honestly, if you want this issue for it I'd suggest just reading Mad Love if you have it already or can find a copy. It basically felt the same and didn't change much if anything. Otherwise this was a great first novel of Suicide Squad. 4/5 -B

Brutal, exciting, and suicidal
The introduction to DC's New 52 Suicide Squad is the best volume in the series. The introductions to each character as well as the old ultraviolence is both entertaining as well as thought provoking. This book makes the reader sympathize with the violent criminals, which make up the Suicide Squad's roster. Their methods are crude, their actions are ruthless, and their the most underrated heroes America has.

Quality Squad.
I bought this trade as a Kindle version due to it’s remarkably cheap price and as an experiment to see how graphic novels transfer onto the Kindle, - a new experience for me. I am very impressed. The panel-by-panel reading experience is a joy and if anything actually enhances the reading experience adding a cinematic quality. Clearly this is helped by the clear defined and accomplished artwork on show here. Some of the dialogue effects (El Diablo’s) become a little indistinct but it’s a minor issue. I’d recommend comicbooks on Kindle without hesitation. (Can anybody explain why I can’t get Marvel comics on Kindle via Amazon.co.uk?) Contents wise I loved this collection. The concept should be a one-trick-pony but interest and involvement is kept up throughout, this is a quality and engaging product. I give credit for there being 7 issues contained in this collection too. I will be back for more, I can’t give a higher recommendation.
