The Perfect Length Thru Axle With a Couple of Issues
The length of this thru axle is not 197MM, it is much longer. The 197 refers to the lock nut to lock nut dimension of the axle. I purchased this to replace my rear axle so I can attach my Burley Coho cx Cargo Trailer. The overall dimension is longer because it extends beyond the rear drop outs so the Burley Ballz thread and tighten on the outer surface of the rear drop outs. I am concerned about the plastic material that the balls are made of. I consider it light duty but time will tell. So if you are reading this and you are trying to figure out the Burley Ballz sizing guide follow the directions found on the Burley website even if it makes no sense. Better yet measure the length of your stock thru axle and determine the thread pitch then call Burley and ask for guidance.This item is made in China and my experience with the Burley Coho XC and the accessories has been average to far below average. I don’t feel confident recommending these Burley products.

Check Sizing Chart
My axle is a 1.75 X 198 mm, so I ordered the 1.75 X 197 mm Ballz axle. Wrong, when I received the axle, it was way too long. I searched on line for how to measure for a Ballz Axle, and found a chart. It would have been nice if the chart would have been included on the Amazon site. Now I have to send it back and re-order the correct axle

Ballz Thru Axle Fit Guide
Fit information can be confusing my bike is Treck Farley 5 with Bontrager Gnarwhal Team Issue Tire 27.5x3.8'' and 197x12mm thru axle. I was surprised when I unscrew the axle off my bike and saw that the axle is 229.5x12. That mean in both cases the size 197X12mm is the size of Rear Hub, not the lenth of axle. Size 229.5x12mm is the size of Rear Hub + Braks + Cassette + Rear derailleur without screw head. This axle is even longer, is 229.5 + size of screw an attached ball
