Ideal for all types of walnuts and pecans. Cracks walnuts so the meat is intact. Very comfortable handle and usable by people with small hands.

This nutcracker is very sturdy and does the job, but it requires more hand strength than I usually have.

I purchased the New Star Foodservice 27990 Nutcracker on the hope and prayer that it would work to crack wild hickory nuts and to my delight, the item is well suited for that task. The item is well constructed and looks like it was built to last. The item did contain an extra spring, as well, and while I don't know how long the original spring will last, it is a nice gesture for the company to include it with the item. The spring serves to automatically return the nutcracker to the original open position after use, and the nutcracker would still be serviceable without the spring in place, actually. Hickory nuts can be opened without strain on the hand using this nutcracker, but it still does require some hand strength. The feature that I find most exceptional about this nutcracker is that there are spikes that come in direct contact with the nut. Not only does serve the purpose of keeping the nut from "squirting" out of the nutcracker, but these same points undoubtedly have the purpose of concentrating the force being applied to the nut while cracking, and thus facilitating the nut cracking processs. I have several wild hickory trees on my property and have always wanted to be able to harvest some for use, but all of the previous means I have tried over the years to crack these nuts left me exasperated. Now I only wish that I had taken the time to save more of this year's crop!

My hands don't have the strength that they used to. This makes even brazil and hazel nuts easy.

This thing blows away the old, lever-style nutcracker, especially for hazelnuts, my favorite. It's so easy to rip through a dozen nuts in no time. It feels stable in the hand and is very easy to control the amount of force so nuts are not obliterated. Drop in a hazelnut, squeeze slightly, invert and the shell and nut usually fall out separately. Priceless. I'm sure it does well with other type nuts. I'll get to them later. Note: keep your free hand over the top to avoid ejected shell pieces.

First my disclaimer, I paid full price for this cracker and have received nothing from the seller. Now to the review.We love it! We bought this to replace our ancient crackers that of course still work, the shinny silver ones. Aging has a lot of bennies but tougher hands isn't one of them. So we looked for something more comfortable and came across this beast. So far the hardest and only nuts opened up in this device have been pecans ranging from small to almost medium in size. Most of the nuts we opened on the first crack but at times would re crack . What really got my attention was how the cracker didn't disturb the meat. I'd love to credit it to my touch but this was my first time using this style cracker and it basically walked me thru it. Ordering another one asap after ending this dissertation.;-) Pabo

Although I am an elderly man, I am still strong and I cannot crack open a black walnut. All the other nuts I have tried they work fine, but if you are buying them for black walnuts they just do not have the leverage to crack them open.

Just a great nut cracker

Can't recommend this product highly enough. It took a while to arrive but cracks all nut including almonds with ease.

Functional but zero points for aesthetic appeal.

Lo saqué por segunda vez desde que lo compré y se rompió!!!! Solo lo había usado una vez con unas cuantas nueces, nunca le dimos uso rudo o distinto a su propósito. Y simplemente una nuez rompió el “metal”. Vean en las fotos como tronó!!! No tiren su dinero a la basura. Esto es indignante!
