Now, my jacket is synthetic so I cannot vouch for how it works on cotton or linen but I can't imagine it not working either. It dries almost clear but I wouldn't expect it to be used showing on the outside of something I wanted to wear to a formal! It is washable. I used it to shorten/hem 2 pair of pajama pants instead of sewing them. The glue itself was on the thick side. At first it was difficult to get the glue to come out. I feel I might have been sent an older product. **Q: when it dries it it more like rubber, leather or canvas?** A: It is ever so slighty stiff, but worth it.
