Perhaps better than those that cost much less.
THIS REVIEW HAS AN UPDATE AT THE END - READ FULLY FOR THE FULL TALEI bought this as an upgrade, a racket to end my unfulfilling affair with lesser quality products. My problem with other cheap rackets was that they didn't really have a lot of power and many of the flies would just be stunned (even the small blackflies). For mosquitoes, they were fine, but for all the rest, I really felt more power was needed to do the job effectively. additionally, the cheap rackets would stop working after not too much time at all - becoming landfill waste. Something had to change. I was tired of junk product. Price was no concern, I just wanted something that was built well and worked. I'd have paid ten times as much for a racket that just worked and would last for more than a season or so.Enter, the Code Red Zap Racket. Marketing messaging was on point. I liked that it plugged in - maybe it had a beefier battery? I liked the idea that at the price (six times higher than what I had been paying), it HAD to be better. So, I bought it.It arrived, I charged it for the 15 hours recommended and I tried it out. DOA. Nothing. Just as junky as those that cost much less. Now when I inquired about a replacement, I was given a full refund, no questions asked, no need to return the broken racket. This was nice because it wasn't any hassle for me, but probably a bad sign because they were so willing to believe that the product arrived inoperable and seemed to have no interest in tracking down WHY it wasn't working. I'm guessing they get a lot of this situation. After getting the refund, I went into the guts of the racket to see if I could find out why it wasn't working at all. No real luck there, no loose connections or anything. I did discover that what I was hoping was a beefier battery was just 2 AA rechargables (the same as the cheaper low-power rackets) that get charged when you plug it in, and I ultimately discovered that the on-off switch seems to be the culprit and if you can switch it on just so, SOMETIMES, it'll actually turn on.Over-all I'd advise that if you're looking for a step up in quality, this is not it. Maybe none exist? Just as junky as the cheaper ones, at a much higher price (partially due to the internal circuitry used to recharge the batteries no doubt). BUT, that said, I wasn't hassled on the refund, so maybe still worth a try? I'd still say no. Search elsewhere, these are not the droids you're looking for - and in this case, they really aren't.UPDATE:Fast forward one year. The owner of the company that makes these rackets read this review. He felt that I could be won over if he sent a new functioning racket and apologized for not having been made aware of my initial issues. So that's what he did, sent me a free racket - no strings attached - and without even asking for me to consider changing my review. A very classy guy and seemed to really believe in his product. So I tried it out and so far... much better! I've only been zapping for a couple weeks now, so longevity is still unproven at this writing, but so far so good with a company that really seems to stand behind their work. I'd say go for it and try them out!

Zap Racket Man
I ordered this Zap Racket June 2010 and enjoyed it for a couple of years. In 2012 I noticed the battery life was very low...lost charge after disconnecting quickly. I did two things.1. I wrote to the Zap Racket company not so much complaining but hoping for some technical assistance in reviving. They replied in a hand written personalized email. Bottom line I was very satisfied with a low cost replacement. I still will be apprehensive about having poor battery life in 3 years and want to learn what kind of rechargeable, what is optional charging strategy, but meanwhile I am in business, now with 2 Zap Rackts, mid July in Minnesota (bug time!).2. I ordered one of the competitors, a Alkaline, not rechargeable battery set up which could be good but right off the bat a big 'june bug" blew in and the new Charcoaol line, AA powered racket did not seem to touch it. I pulled out my old Zap Racket, which I had left plugged in, and brought him down pronto. I am a Zap man for now.Customer service for this Zap Racket is absolutely unbelievable. It appears that the owner or manager (I don't know which one) never sleeps, monitoring emails 24 seven and going way out of his way to accommodate.

Just Bought Our Second Racket
We love this product so much that we just bought a second one, and they are constant companions outside during the many mosquito months we now have near Phoenix. We will probably remain brand loyal to Zap Racket for two reasons. Quality of Product: Their racket works perfectly, stays charged a long time, and is lighter and easier to maneuver than another racket we bought that looked the same but was very heavy and too large to comfortably wield. We also support the use of recycled plastic and love that it uses a rechargeable battery. So easy to operate. Customer Service: They stand behind their product with personable communication and have replaced a racket that developed an issue that made it hard to operate within the first year we owned it.

Almost There
Almost there but Not yet. For years I have been trying to get manufactures to Invent an Electric weed trimmer that has the power and attachments of a gasoline powered weed trimmer and mouse proof appliances and a Baby left In the car notification device and a Electric micro-fly (I think some people call them drain or Fruit flies they are the worst pest there Is followed by ticks) zapper the size of a window screen that plugs Into house ac and works 24/7 and You could build a fortress around You with them.Still the best brand of zapper I have used Is iTouch It uses 2 AA batteries the ones that use D-cell batteries are too heavy and If You are swinging at a micro-fly the speed to hit them the momentum will swing You around possibly hitting something as another Person which means a trip to the hospital. This zapper has very powerful It Sounds like a cap gun when hitting a micro-fly Its louder than the iTouch but I live In Hell Valley Oklahoma and people tell Me that Its more humid In Louisiana and hotter In Arizona but Its like the difference between drowning In 12 foot of Water and 11 foot of Water. What I do Not like about about this zapper though Its lighter than a D-cell zapper for a 2 hour charge You get 2 minutes of use I think a rechargeable battery pack would be better and You would have a choice to use lighter AA batteries or longer lasting D-cell batteries. The shipping was through USPS and fairly quick.
