The new Oxford Hind-English Dictionary is a landmark in the description of Hindi. About the author McGregor was born in New Zealand in 1929. His parents were Scottish. After obtaining his BA, he studied early English philology at Oxford and learned Hindi. Best known as editor of the Oxford Hindi-English Dictionary, a standard reference work published in 1993 after a sustained effort of twenty years, McGregor was a Fellow of Wolfson College and retired as Reader in Hindi at the University of Cambridge. Learning Hindi quickly
Very good help me learn Hindi and I could search some Hindi words and find their meaning in English it will be very good spending time on it

Up to the Oxford standards
Purchased this for my kid to enhance his knowledge of hindi. This dictionary is very well organized and explains every word clearly. My kid liked it a lot and he is able to understand new hindi words without depending on me now. Only observation is the range of the words is little less. He is not able to find approximately 10% of the words from his text book. Understanding that Indian languages are so vast, it is not easy to have all the words fit in such small Dictionary.

Satisfactory
I took this dictionary to know what a foreigner suggests for a parallel English word to a corresponding Hindi word. Perhaps it could have enhanced my proficiency in English. But it was not to expectations. Yet the book is satisfying to the foreign students who want to learn Hindi.

Excellent Choice for Hindi Students of All Levels
Clear and concise definitions. Obviously has robust scholarship behind it. Definitions include standard definitions and usage, but also includes notes about slang or colloquial usage of words. I am a low-intermediate student of Hindi (I'm American, English is my native language, but I've been studying Hindi in India). This is a fantastic tool which I turn to OFTEN in my studies. No regrets. It's a good low-cost addition to your study toolkit. Google Translate doesn't provide GENDER, and Hindi language uses gender in grammatical constructions. This dictionary solves that problem for you. Good layout and excellent font. Thick paperback, pleasant to hold, paper is thick enough that there's no fear of ripping a page.
