Review: Top product and did the job easily if messy! - Rear window in TT softtop had come adrift. Expensive specialist repair was recommended at over £300! Bought this product for under £20 and decided to attempt a repair myself. More than 3 months of lousy and very cold winter weather since repair and it seems to be fixed. I've used the car a few times over the first month or so then put the car away for winter under the car cover but outdoors. No evidence so far of any problem! You will need several old pillows or cushions to support the glass once it is secured back into the canvas and I also bought a set of sealy glass clamps which sucker onto the glass and clamp down on the glued seam from the outer surface, use a wooden lolly stick under the clamping surface to spread the pressure a cross a longer section for each clamp used. Took me about 4 hours to prepare outer perimeter surface of the glass, scraping old adhesive off glass with Stanley knife blade and cleaning the canvas up using some sandpaper, i.e. not removing the glue deposits just roughing them up to remove and algae/dirt. Then applied primer, dried, then applied adhesive around lower edge and offside vertical edge of glass. Other seams were still sound and were left untouched. The inner canvas strips were then tackled another day after leaving adhesive to set. This by again applying the adhesive to the inner glass surface and the surrounding main canvas inner surface, then the canvas was carefully offered up and pressed into position a few CMS at a time. All this was with the roof still attached to the car and closed. It's an awkward job but can be done with care!😁 WEAR DISPOSABLE GLOVES. This stuff is extremely sticky and will take a lot of cleaning from clothes if it gets onto them. I used a small amount of uPVC cleaning solvent on a cloth rag, to clean deposits from the glass and metalwork which inevitably get contaminated. It also took the stuff off my fingers when the glove split at one point during assembly. I used swarfega to finish off the hand cleaning. Good luck if you decide to tackle this. Well worth the effort and very satisfying result with well over £300 saved all in.
Review: Re attached the rear glass to a Beetle and its holding just fine - My wifes Beetle rear glass has been loose for too long and eventually came completely detached. Not flush with £1500 for a new roof I opted to try this first. Have a look for "Cabriolet rear window bond repair guide" and you'll find a good forum post of someone detailing what they did. I instead used a set of the blue draper suction clamps. They are not great, being too stuff a material to get fantastic suction on the glass, so use a pritt stick to help them get a good stick. I did the top edge first, then once dry did the 2 sides and then the bottom and its all come out great. The car is quieter, the glass is firmly attached and now not seeping water in the rain, and I have a spare tube of this that I should probably flog.
