Sugar Rush: Series 1 And 2 [DVD]

Warning: The music is no the same
The music on the DVDs are NOT the same as on the Original series, found on 4oD.It completely ruins he experience, and you are much better off watching the series on Channel 4's catch up service.Music is critical to any series, and especially here: the music on the dvd often changed the mood and meaning of a scene.. which will happen if music is changed, even if the music is quite similar. You'll know what I mean if you've watched the series before on 4oD, three scenes come to mind that were totally ruined by the lack of the original music:1)Episode 7: The scene where Kim is on the Waltzer, when she decides she wants to tell Sugar. The song 'Sunrise' adds so much and is brillant. (all changed on the dvd)2)A piece of music that plays throughout the series, a guitar playing three of four cords, which is used when Kim and Sugar are sitting on the beach in episode 7.. also plays where Kim finds Sugar all bloody on the seafront.. on the dvd there is no music at all.. whereas on 4oD this music adds so much!Does anyone know where to find this music? I really want it, it plays where Kim finds Sugar all bloody on the seafront. Please, if you do know where to find the song - get in touch! I'll pay you! I need it that much!3)And finally, the song 'It's just the Sun Rising' - played when Sugar is dancing in the night club.. and Kim and Sugar are both on E. Amazing music for the scene. Just perfect.Overall, for me the lack of original music would force me to get my friend to watch it on 4oD rathing than on the DVDs.. as the music is so critical. If anyone knows the song I'm looking for above (or needs more info on the one I mean) please contact me! Read number 2 above for details.

as sweet as real sugar :)
Having first seen this series on 4OD, and having wanted a copy of the boxed set for a while, I was plesently surprised when I came across this on Amazon. The series focuses on the experiences of Kim Daniels,(Olivia Halinan) a fifteen year old girl who moves to Brighton from London with her somewhat dysfunctional family. Kim is also sexually obsessed with her Straight as a tack best friend Sugar, (Lenora Critchlow) who, although acutely aware of Kim's strong feelings towards her, seemingly flaunts her sexuality and relationships in Kim's face throughout the series and gets Kim tangled up in some very tricky dilemmas as the series progresses, with some very unimaginable consequences!! The First series mainly explores Kim's struggles to come to terms with her sexuality, and her follows her adjustment to her feelings for girls in general, all while trying to overcome trials and tribulations with her family. while the second series focuses more on how Kim's life and relationships have progressed since 'coming out'. presented with Halinan's hilariously cutting narrative, This is an immensely compelling drama that manages to explore a serious and challenging subject in a way that all young women, gay or straight, can identify with, and carries it off extremely effortlessly.A very well deserved five stars from me and an enormous well done to all the cast and crew involved :)

Worth a re-watch
I remembered seeing the occasional episode when it was shown on Channel 4 in the UK back in the early 00's.Of course it may be a sign that today's television is so awful any mention of TV past is remembered more fondly than perhaps it should be.That said, it's well written. Wonderfully acted and skillfully directed and is worth a second chance.

I love this show
If you were like me and saw the adverts, thought it looked interesting but never actually got round to watching this buy these dvds now. I borrowed them off a friend and had to buy my own copy. It is so different to other run of the mill teen television programmes. The humour is excellent and all the characters are brilliant. The first series is focusing on Sugar and Kim's relationship which is fascinating however the second series manages to develop the relationship by adding another character, Saint. Both series are brilliant and I love how the second series focuses more on Kim and her journey onto the gay scene. Olivia Hallinan is a brilliant actress. Kim's family are also excellent, every child has been embarassed by their parents and it's very funny to watch the situations they get themselves in to.Buy this if your looking for something different that will make you laugh, I can't wait for the next series!

I couldn't get enough of this show!
After reading the reviews of sugar rush I bought series 1 and 2 in a box set. The series is gripping from the start being funny and tragic at the same time( in the sense of OMG! Is this the modern family!!). loved the honesty of Kim's character and her frankness about her sexuality. I found the commentary on modern teenage life disturbing though! Do 15year olds really drink and take drugs like that?, series two is excellent too, as Kim and sugar grow up. Don't be put off thinking that this is some drama about teenage anxieties that middle aged people will not enjoy! Far from it, I found a lot of parelells with my life in my twenties and university life. In terms of a piece of lesbian drama, thankyou channel 4 for a great drama that deals with all the issues without too much gratuitous sex. A quality eve of tv.

Picture quality is a bit grainy so don't know if I've got a bad copy & I was disappointed to discover that most of the songs have been changed due to copyright issues, very annoying when the clubbers are dancing out of time to the music.

Lesbihonest - I love it.
I used to watch this when I was younger and loved it then and still love it now. They did dub different music over I noticed but it's still awesome. The DVDs arrived safely, quickly and in perfect condition so big thumbs up!If only I'd noticed what watching this program 100 times along with other LGBTQ movies meant then I wouldn't be sat here with my pet cat at 30 with a ice-cream and a bottle of wine. Turns out I'm a massive lesbian.
