Impresions after first print... just ok. Better options available at this price point.

The first few inches of the filament was super brittle and shattered. I haven't found another area along the spool that fractured like this. If there are more areas that were brittle this would be an unusable roll, as a filament break in the middle of a print is at a minimum annoying to recover from, at worst it ruins the print. I also notices a section of filament which looked like it was missing material from it, like a 1/4 of the diameter of the filament was missing (manufacturing defect) - It's in the middle of the spool on the right side of the photo. There was an active print at the time I noticed it, so the spool was moving. Sorry for the slightly blurry image. The appearance of this filament on the spool is not great by comparrison, it looks sloppily wrapped and there are some slight kinks/bends along travel.I printed a Batman figure off thingaverse to test the spool with the following settings. .25mm layer height, 1.2mm wall thickness, 3 wall line count, 0.8mm top/bottom thickness, 0% infill, 200 deg. F extrude temp, 60 def F bed temp, 1.75mm filament dia, print speed 50mm/s.My first print, the filament didn't adhere well to the build plate, so I dropped the print speed from 60mm/s to 50mm/s. That seemed to help, and the print completed successfully. I've since measured the diameter of the filament (I didn't have accurate enough calipers at the time I made my first print) and it's all on the low side, so likely my adhering problem was likely due to an insufficient amount of material being extruded. The quality of the print was mediocre, but it would likely be improved with modified settings.Measured with digital calipers. Measurements along the first few meters ranged from 1.68 - 1.71mm with most reading falling at 1.70mm. I have not unspooled more than a few meters to measure further into the roll. If you don't have calipers, I'd suggest starting with a filament diameter at 1.70mm and checking performance from there. The filament is spec'd to be 1.75mm +/- 0.05 so it should only range from 1.8 tp 1.7mm in diameter. So it falls out of the manufacturers own spec. That's not a great sign in my book. For comparison, I have a spool of monoprice transparent orange filament (not an endorsement - it came with my printer and it's the only other spool I have opened at this time). Measurements from the monoprice spool are all within 1.72 - 1.75mm.I plan on printing more parts with this spool. I'm not convinced that it's unusable... I will update review if things improve/get worse.Update 1/21/17 - I've gotten much better results by adjusting my printer settings. Primarily by dropping the filament diameter and increasing the extruder temperature. I'm using the following cura settings: 0.16mm layer height, 1.2mm wall thickness, 3 wall line count, 0.8mm top/bottom thickness, 20% infill, 210 deg. F extrude temp, 60 def F bed temp, 1.70mm filament dia, print speed 50mm/s

    Newbies perfect filament

*by H***R on Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2017*

I have given this 5 stars. I rarely will give 5 stars unless I truly feel the product deserves it. I will also admit this is the absolute very first filament I have used since I'm very new to this area and have recently built my printer. With that being said the Alunar PLA filament is very easy to use for newbies. Getting a good print in 3D printing can be difficult because of all the different settings to adjust to make it work. Layer bonding was spot on perfect and each print comes out strong with no real issues.

    Great Company!

*by C***S on Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2016*

This filament is great! I did my usual micrometer tests and found that the spools that I have received both are very close to specs. I've printed through about a kilogram of this stuff without any issues. I've attached a picture of the Empire State Building that I printed with this filament. I was impressed with the detail. This is great filament but what is most impressive is the customer service that the company provides. I will buy everything 3D from this company. They really care.
