Bright, versatile flashlight
I do a lot of computer hardware work, and running wires and cables, and more times than I can count, I needed a bright light in a particular place, and ended up holding a pen-light in my mouth. Or, I do have one of those lamps you wear on your head with an elastic strap -- but I can never get the light pointed where I really need it. I have other LED flashlights of various shapes and sizes, but none was exactly what I wanted. My Joby Gorillatorch Flare arrived today, and I can already tell it will be my favorite flashlight of all. (For starters, the packaging wasn't ridiculous to open.)The tripod legs are quite stiff and will stay wherever you position them, and each segment is a little ball joint, so the possible arrangements of the legs is almost infinite. At the ends of the legs are magnets. VERY powerful magnets. As an experiment, I set the Flare on the side of my metal filing cabinet, and it stuck there quite securely. (You may want to remember to keep this flashlight away from credit cards and anything else with mag-strips.)The important thing, of course, is whether the flashlight is bright enough and puts light where you want it. I'd read the reviews about how the original Gorillatorch has an ultra-bright center spot, with rapidly decreasing brightness. For me, the wide, even brightness of the Flare is preferable. It uses 3-AA batteries, which I absolutely prefer, because I can use rechargeable batteries if I like. One thing I try to stay away from in flashlights is button or proprietary or otherwise unusual batteries. If I can't easily pick up some replacements on the go at a pharmacy or supermarket or hardware store, it's not a light I want.I would agree with the other reviewers: I do wish there was simply an on-off switch, and to have the light go to whatever the last setting was. Other than that though, this is a great flashlight. On update: Actually, this function is available, just not prominently documented. I found the description on the packaging cardboard insert. Pressing the switch briefly cycles the light through its settings -- low white, medium, bright, strobe, red, red-strobe, and off. On any of these lit settings, if you press and hold the switch for 1 second, the light will go off. If you press the switch again, it will return to that last setting.

Bright and practicle... but with design flaw.
Very bright and light weight. The legs are easy to manipulate and you can position the beam of light right where you need it.There's a design flaw in the way you cycle through the different intensities and varieties of light. You have to press a button multiple times to get to the desired intensity... then to turn it off, you have to push the same button to continue the cycle until you reach the off position. It would have been much better to have a knob that allows you to reach your desired intensity directly with a twist of the knob (instead of having to cycle through pushes of a button).NOTE: My unit was shipped from Japan and it took a very long time to arrive (about a month!)UPDATE: You can hold the button down to power off the unit, and when you turn it back on it will resume its previous state.

clever little worklight
This is a useful and bright little work-light that projects a very even beam with almost no hotspot. Since the light is equal in intensity wherever the beam is focused you won't have to move it around much. For some task where you need an intense spotlight this flashlight night not work as well though you could just move it closer to your work. The legs are a great feature and the magnets in the feet can easily support this light in any position. I do wish that the legs were removable so the light could be used as a handheld flashlight. You can still do that with the legs attached but it's awkward. I'm also not keen on flashlights that take 3 batteries (included) but that's a minor annoyance. All the batteries go in facing the same direction. That's a great feature and other manufacturers should pick up on this idea. This light also remembers what mode it was in last if you turn it off by holding the power button in for 3 seconds. The design of this light seems well thought out and it feels as rugged as it can be with 3 flexible legs hanging off of it. I'm not sure how well it would hold up if you threw it in the bottom of your tool box or backpack but it doesn't feel like it needs to be babied either.

nice product
This is nice for the car as it has different light levels for battery conservation, a red light to maintain night vision, uses (3) AA easily obtained lightweight inexpensive batteries, magnetic flexible feet for attaching to various metal surfaces or wrapping around something. I would prefer the magnets be stronger, but they probably will do well for most situations. I've had this in my van for over a half year including the past winter and the batteries still are sufficient for the light to provide the light I needed when I used a couple of months ago. I feel it's kinda pricey for my tastes, although it depends on what YOU are looking for in a light and YOUR intended usage.

don't buy it for the legs!!!!
It started out great. The adjustable legs put an adequate amount of light wherever I needed it. Before the first set of batteries were done, the plastic legs had small cracks in them and they would fall off if the light was stuck to anything ferrous. Four or five uses in and this thing is now useless.

Joby Gorillatorch Flate
Joby Gorillatorch Flare Adjustable And Flexible Tripod Flashlight Saw this torch and thought it might be a "fun" gift for my husband. He thought it was fantastic, excellent light (variable) flexible legs means can be used anywhere, also legs have magnetic feet so torch can be used leaving hands free to work. He loved it and has recommended it to friends, its great especially if no one around to hold a torch. Value for money and quality is excellent Joby Gorillatorch Flare Adjustable And Flexible Tripod Flashlight
