emergency only

I got this last summer. The first time I tried it, my son and I did a overnight woods hike. It was warm, and very buggy in the evening. We slept in the Appy Trails mark III on a Tyvek sheet, with mosquito net draped over the open door. This was fine, it kept the bugs out because the tent walls stretch tight to the ground; great! Last March I slept in it for two nights solo, myself. First night, temps below 40 degrees f, I woke up to cold feet in my very warm down sleeping bag. The condensation on the walls had soaked my bag where the tent tapers down at the feet. Lots of condensation even with both vents wide open. Next night, I moved the tent and when I staked it down I left an inch between the ground and the tent walls. Well, it rained hard all night. The tent kept the rain out, but the tent sagged due to the rain until it touched the ground and there's the dripping condensation again, even with the door half open. Obviously, I didn't die from hypothermia, it is very light and easy to set up, but the condensation was annoying.

GREAT LIGHTWEIGHT SHELTER

This is a great lightweight shelter. It's as light as a feather, and easy to assemble. We used it last weekend, and it does just what it says it will. If you are a minimalist this is the shelter for you, just throw in a backpacking tarp for ground cover and it's ready to go. Like most tents this it is a bit tight, however if it's just for one person you'll be just fine. It will sleep two comfortably without any gear inside. It dries quick too, I did not treat it, but I will before the next trip out. I would definitely recommend this tent.

Worked well on Grand Teton

This tent is very compact and light weight and works quite well if bugs are not an issue. Held up well in the snow storm.

almost kept it

I thought it was made in usa from the appy trail website, but wasn't so I returned it. But seemed like an okay option for lightweight adventurers.

Relatively inexpensive (compared to other options), lightweight, basic shelter

I bought this tent to shave some weight off a four day trip to the Bridger Wilderness of WY back in late August. The weather mostly cooperated . . . it sprinkled one night and was pretty windy the other two. Night time temps were in the 30's. The tent succeeded at keeping me dry and significantly warmer than I would have been otherwise.I probably would have given the Mark III four stars except for two things. No matter how much I adjusted the stakes or center pole (I used a trekking pole) I always ended up with one or two panels of the tent that were loose and saggy. No clue what the problem was but I suspect that dimensions or cut of the panels was slightly off (a manufacturing flaw). I was trying to pitch the tent with the sides taught to the ground to keep out wind and rain but that wasn't possible on the side with all the slack. The other thing that disappointed me with the tent was that I managed to tear two of the stake grommets on the third night while setting it up. There isn't much holding the grommet to the bottom hem (under engineered) on the tent and if you tug on them hard enough, they will tear through the fabric.Being a single wall tent, condensation was a problem (even in the high country of Wyoming). As the sides of the tent became covered with condensation on the inside and dew on the outside, everything sagged in a little making the interior of the tent seem a bit smaller by morning. The wet interior shed a little of its moisture on me or my sleeping bag each time I came in contact with the tent (or when the wind blew hard enough). It wasn't a totally intolerable situation but required additional care while moving around inside. This tent was roomy enough for me and my gear (I am 5'11"). It would be tight but doable with two adults (but your gear would have to stay outside). Three adults might be able to sleep in this tent under desperate circumstances. If I could do it over again, I probably would have saved my money and purchased a two wall shelter from Tarp Tent.

Great lightweight tent !

This lightweight tent is great for backpacking or a tailgater.I spent a cool night and it rained, but I was dry in the morning.Use with a center pole or use a rope tied to a tree limb.Great for long backpacking trips, light weight and packs in a small bag.
