85mm F1.8 SE Mark II STM AF Full Frame Auto Focus Medium Telephoto High Resolution 8K Portrait Lens Compatible with Canon EOS EF Mount DSLR Cameras T8i T7 850D 90D 5D 6D 5D Mark IV 6D Mark II

I purchased this lens to add to my collection. I have multiple cameras and quite frankly, I have different lens brands (Canon, Viltrox, Meike, etc) at the same focal length, and over the years, I've simply took to collecting them and keeping my favorite lenses on each camera just out of sheer laziness. It seems like I like to collect camera bodies as well, just like so many hobbyists. I like to use less expensive lenses to take on trips, or into situations where I don't want to carry my larger, bulkier, expensive lenses. I went to the Nixon Presidential Library to test it out, where I would find objects in different lighting -- some dim, some uneven, and some exceedingly bright. I found that the auto focus was extremely fast, and even at f/1.8, the photos were never blurry despite my slight movement, as I could only stop momentarily to avoid others from getting into the frame. Being an 85mm, I had to stand back to frame my photos, and the lens produced a nice bokeh. Obviously not as much as f/1.4, but it still looked good. I used this on my Canon R8, utilizing its full frame capability shooting at its highest resolution and the photos did not disappoint. I took photos of people, and I find that if the photos are super sharp, it is less flattering to the individual, so sharpness was not a huge factor. There was a little noise, but again, at this price point, it produced very satisfying results, and quite honestly, my other Canon L series lenses that cost 5x the price are only marginally better, with minuscule improvements that only the most discerning photographer could appreciate. Bottom line is that I felt great carrying around a lens that was very affordable and produced 90% of the results that I wanted. At the end of the day, I had family members compliment me on all of the personal photos that I took of the family, and none of them knew whether I was taking photos from a $200 lens or a $1000 lens. For people buying at this price point, put effort into framing your photographs and controlling the setting, rather than relying on a super expensive camera and hoping that it does all of the work for you. The lens is lightweight and worry free. So, a little explanation about each of the photos. In the first photo, there are 2 astronauts from the 1969 lunar landing. Taken straight up toward the ceiling, you can see the reflection of the floor below. The picture came out very sharp with detail as if you could reach out and touch the astronaut's suit. In fact, it was probably about 15 feet above me. In the second photo, I took a picture of an actual letter from Abraham Lincoln to General Grant. The photo was taken in low light, but you can read every bit of detail, with an amazing message from the President. In the third photo, I took a photo of the President's desk in the recreated Oval Office. I focused on the telephone, which depicts what the desk would have looked like around 1970, back when technology was limited and left the table relatively uncluttered. The lens produced a very pleasant image, despite the backlighting, but the photo produced a nice level of sharpness that would simulate what one would see with the naked eye. Again, no disappointment in the result. In the final photo, I took a picture of 2 soldiers, deliberately focusing sharply on one, leaving the remainder of the scene to be blurred, testing the bokeh at f/1.8. Good to use as a walk around lens, but not as much for portrait settings where you'd want more depth of field, like with a f/1.4 or f/1.2

The only complaint(and it's more a wish than a complaint) is that the lens isn't weather resistant. I don't even mind that it's an EF lens and I have to use an adapter for my RF cameras. It would be great if I could use it in light rain or dusty places without worrying about it so much, and I'd happily pays three times the current price if it had that. The autofocus works great, the images look great, it's light weight, and the focus is pretty quiet(although I don't shoot a lot of video, so I don't worry much about that anyway). If you have a Canon DSLR and want/need an 85mm lens, get this one. If you have a Canon mirrorless camera, get an adapter, and get this lens.

This lens is great. Of course can't compared to a $800 or $1400 lens but it's sharp, autofocus works, it's pretty fast and build quality is good for the price. it has free firmware updates on their website. Definitely a great buy on a budget

For the price this lens punches well above it's weight

85mm was the last of the standard primes on my shopping list; up to now, I've been pretty happy with my 70-200/2.8 for tight-focus shooting . Most of my lenses are Canon RF or Sigma Art EF lenses I've adapted, but I absolutely stumbled on to this little guy, and it is indeed right up to the task of making lovely compressed-background portraits. It's tiny, the second-smallest lens I own after a 24mm pancake model. Autofocus might be a hair slower than my Sigma Art EFs, but this lens is also less than a third of what any one of those guys cost. It's also comfortably faster to focus than 90s-era Canon EF lenses I've used. I've also noticed that I can't hear the AF motor at all when I'm recording video and using a shotgun mic. At time of writing, this the only autofocus full frame lens Meike makes for any Canon body, although it does offer a number of manual lenses for EF-S and EF-M bodies, but it represents a real bargain. This guy is punching well above its weight.

Lots of bang for your buck here! Excellent glass for an amazing price point. Highly recommend if you're looking for decent portrait glass without the name brand price tag.

When it focuses works great but have to sometimes remove from camera and put back on to get it to focus. The focus ring doesn't help doesn't really when in autofocus, when I have the issue even in manual focus ring doesn't do anything. Is connected to a rf to EF adapter, tried both meike adapter and canon adaptor on a canon r6 mark ii.

On a 5D MK II it worked perfectly. On a 5D it worked well on the objects in the Mk II review except for a folded umbrella that it couldn't lock on to (might be my focus setting). On a 40D and 50D, it roll out the auto focus to max distance and then stopped. I then set the lens to Manual Focus and it worked fin. The picture were sharp and clear. I will shop for a used 85mm Canon lens for the 40D and 50D. I am definitely keeping this lens for full frame pictures. I would buy this lens again.

Good clear glass. Takes good portraits indoors without flash as long as there is at least a decent window or decent electric lights. Works well, with people looking like they actually look in reality with no distortion on both my full frame Canon and APS-c cameras. Light weight and small enough to hardly notice in a camera bag. I've taken a few bird shots that have come out well just for fun that have come out really well, too. Admittedly they're sitting in a tree in my garden and are happy withe sitting there with them so I can get very close. 🙄

Ich habe das Meike 85mm SE Mark II STM mit EF-Bajonett an einer Canon R6 und einer Canon R7 jeweils über den Canon EF-RF Adapter getestet und bin ehrlich positiv überrascht. Die Verarbeitung macht einen wertigen Eindruck und das Objektiv liegt gut in der Hand. Besonders überzeugt hat mich die Bildqualität. Bereits bei Offenblende ist die Schärfe im Zentrum sehr gut und abgeblendet wird das Bild über das gesamte Bildfeld nochmals sichtbar knackiger. Farben und Kontrast gefallen mir ebenfalls sehr. Der STM-Autofokus arbeitet an beiden Kameras zuverlässig und ausreichend schnell. Für Porträts, Alltag und auch Videoaufnahmen ist das absolut überzeugend. An der R6 harmoniert das Objektiv hervorragend als klassisches Porträtobjektiv, während es an der R7 durch den Crop-Faktor noch mehr Reichweite bietet – ideal für Detailaufnahmen oder etwas mehr Abstand zum Motiv. Auch mit dem EF-RF Adapter gab es bei meinem Test keinerlei Kompatibilitätsprobleme. Autofokus, Blendensteuerung und EXIF-Daten funktionierten ohne Auffälligkeiten. Angesichts des Preises bekommt man hier erstaunlich viel Leistung. Wer kein Vermögen für ein lichtstarkes 85-mm-Objektiv ausgeben möchte, erhält mit dem Meike 85mm SE Mark II STM eine sehr empfehlenswerte Alternative. Von mir gibt es daher verdiente 5 Sterne.

Seller fast and to the point. No problem on delevery. Lens is excelent, great value for money. Fast and accurate focus, I use it adapated on RF bodies, I shoot sports with it.
