I didn't press on why... but maybe it is a restriction imposed by their dental association?That said - you have to use them properly. My daughter was using this with the tip designed for braces. She had great hygiene from the biting surface of her teeth to the braces, but the other half of her teeth, between the gums and braces had lots of plaque. The waterpik is not to blame, my daughter's sloppy hygiene was. She has now been told she has to focus on the entire surfaces of her teeth. No matter how good the tool, you still have to use it properly.If you don't yet have a quality water flosser - get one! The countertop models are powerful enough, if you take care between your teeth to dislodge even stuck pieces of meat, and other things that tend to get caught between teeth. I used to check afterwards with regular floss - and found that handheld less powerful battery travel models, with smaller reservoirs, did less well with food particles wedged between teeth.The other bonus here, is that like the advertising says, the DH confirmed it's also great for the health of your gums!In short I now consider a quality water flosser, together with a good tongue scrape, as essential tools for the best possible daily dental hygiene at home.If you want to splurge put a little mouthwash into the water in the flosser. Your mouth will feel every bit as clean as if you just came from the dentist !
