How do you winterize this in an area that gets below freezing?

I live in NJ and every fall I shut the flow valve to the filter - I have a waterfall that I let run for a few more weeks until we start getting ice - disconnect the filter from the water line. I then clean it out - in particular the material inside that the good bacteria grows on - and place it in the garage to dry out for a few weeks. I then take it down into the cellar for the winter. I know of no way of winterizing it in place and leaving it ourside for the winter. The water will freeze and I wouldn't want to add even "non-toxic" anti-freeze to any pond equipment. Hope that helps.

Yes you do. I use a Tetrapond DHP4200 Debris Handling Pump. Don't use a pump stronger then that.

Inlet/Outlet 1.25 in., 1.5 in./1.25 in., 1.5 in.

Does anyone know the size of the large oring included in the filter? I need to replace the original one I have and the kit is $34 for a lot of extra parts I don't need.

I believe I have the same filter problem and the O ring measures 12 inches across. does this sound like it is the right one? I need to replace it also. Where do you order the KIT?
