It happens when the compressor is cold and goes as the compressor wams up, it warms up faster if the room temperature is around 20°C. If the room is colder the noise stays there for longer. It is a bit like a car engine engine warming up on a cold winters morning. **Q: The compressor appears to be extremely noisy and the sound level reading is over 52 decibels. Is the device faulty?** A: The dehumidifier produces a noise level similar to that of am 12inch fan. Further it does not run continuously and so is silent for much of the time. The machine is set at 50% humidity and a low fan speed. **Q: Can someone please tell me the length of the cable?** A: Hi, The flex length is just over 1.8m. On a wet day yes, if you are boiling a kettle in the same room yes….normally there is a slow increase in humidity to the same as the outside. I run mine 24 hours at a setting of 50% it cuts in and out as required to maintain that level. I just wanted to say thank you to Meaco for a great product that has massively reduced the damp and mold in my still very old house. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic and well worth the money *by S***E on 27 December 2019* I have a small dehumidifier for my kitchen which has been good, but I wanted a larger one that would do the job in the conservatory in which we placed a panel heater to help dry out washing during the winter, but as this was going to create a lot of condensation it was important to keep this at bay. We also wanted something that wasn't going to cost a fortune to run and after reading the reviews for this Meaco, I thought I'd give this a whirl and I'm very glad we did. There is an easy to use interface which enables you to set the required humidity level (we set ours to the recommended setting of 55) and you can set it to run on either high or low (depending on how much the area needs dehumidifying). You basically just switch it on and leave it running and it will switch on and off automatically when the humidity rises over the set level until it brings it down again. This it does without having to fiddle with it, therefore it pretty much runs itself. There is an additional function - "laundry" - which you can switch on - designed for once you've hung up your washing and it drags the moisture out of the air faster. This function runs for 6 hours and then switches off. The only downside with this is that (from what I have experienced, so far at least), once the 6 hours has passed on laundry mode the machine doesn't automatically restart and you have remember to go back and switch it on again, which is a bit of a pain (I expect there may be a way to set it so this doesn't happen, but I haven't worked it out yet). You also have to check on it every so often to make sure the water collection isn't full as the machine will switch off then too. Apart from that, you can leave it on to do its thing. The amount of water this machine has pulled out is astronomical!! I can honestly say we have not had ONE drop of condensation since using it. We also have a smart meter and can see that it doesn't use a lot, despite being on 24/7. I am SO impressed and extremely glad I bought it. I told my parents about it and they have now bought exactly the same one, for the same reasons and they are also equally impressed and over the moon with the difference it has made.
