This thing has cojones. Don't balk at the price.
I hope to do a video review when I get a chance. But here's a quick review since there are no others.First, don't be fooled by the word shear. It's not like most shears that are glorified electric scissors. This is more like a nibbler, on steroids. The cutting edge is only about 1/2" long, with tons of torque. How can I emphasize - TONS of TORQUE.I have tested this on 12 gauge 304 stainless. It cut it like butter! It was actually too fast. I didn't have time to really get the hang and learn to aim it carefully along the cut. I wish I could slow it down.One thing to be aware of: As you cut, the piece to the right is curled down. This basically scraps the the piece to the right, unless you want a curl. But it also puts a slight bend in the part to the left. How much depends on the gauge and the radius - 12Ga doesn't exactly spring back. So don't expect a perfectly flat work piece when you get done, like you might get from plasma cutter.The case is heavy duty steel, but not well thought out. Not a big deal.But here's the thing. I didn't want to spring for a plasma cutter, with all the real estate and headaches involved. And this Makita shear actually cuts cleaner and at low temperature. You won't get as fancy as you would with a $5,000 CNC machine. But for free hand cutting of sheet metal, this is a work horse. It's a lot cheaper than a good quality Plasma cutter, and a lot more portable.
