Where to measure the tail gate. The overall size or the what?

I have a phone to load handler‘s, one for my 2006 GMC Sonoma and one for my current 2007 Chevy Silverado. I have neither measured for the first nor the second. What I did you was research the measurement for the tailgate, and I based my purchase on whether I had a medium size or a full-size pick up. If you have a medium-size get the load handler 2000. If you have a full-size pick up, get the 3000. I hope this helps

Can it be reduced in size to fit a utility trailer with a 4 x 8 bed?

The drag sheet is completely flexible so would fit the trailer bed no problem. The issue would be how you would mount it on the rear/tailgate of your trailer. The unloader has two large U-brackets that fit on the tailgate of a pickup. They ride just about two inches inside of a full size truck tailgate and are not adjustable. If your trailer is as wide as a pickup tailgate and has clearance outside of that for the crank then it might work.

Does it fit in a 2010 Dodge 2500 long bed?

Not positive but would say yes. My 2005 Silverado 8' bed it fits fine with room to spare. I love mine, as well as my neighbors.
