Not sure what type of plastic. The only thing on the bottom is the arrowed triangle with a 2 in the center.

How are people labeling or marking these to keep track of the contents? Can you write directly on the bottles?

Depends on the contents. You can use a sharpie perminent marker. If chemicals are in the bottles and depending on the chemical, the markings from the sharpie can be removed if it gets on the outside of the bottle. You can also use a label machine/stickers to mark the contents.You can use different colored tapes.You can dip them in glue and use different colors of glitter.The possibilities are endless. :)

Yes, I use them for this exclusively. I do acrylic pour painting and it's great not just for mixing but for pouring

Is it just me or do these bottles have extremely narrow tips making it difficult to dispense generous amounts of gravy?should i cut at the tip?

I too cut the tip for thicker sauces etc. and label that bottle to be used just for such. I use my bottles (2) at this time for salad dressings. I can get just the amount I want and not over use dressings. Of course I label all bottles with masking tape which can be easily removed when used for something else.
