The sides should have a little bit of support as well and be careful of how you put things inside, it would be smart to mark the supports where they land and imagine a big forward swing as the bed closes. I needed something my kids couldn't shove their things under to "clean" their room. I used a staple gun and put an old sheet on top of the boards here to avoid things dropping into the base of the bed. I also locked my bed with a latch so only I can access the cavity below where I store the winter bedding in special bags. I wish there was an optional headboard. The only downside to this bed is how often I run into the corners. The little corner things either came unglued or a curious child in my home pulled them off...so I need to get something to replace them. I have temporarily pulled the mattress out and iver the edge just a hair and that helps. Directions were overall easy if you are detail oriented....but really focus on the mattress support frame, its the trickiest art with 2 end pieces and three long pieces. Review: Easy even a woman can do it - I absolutely love this! And it is so easy to put together. The directions are easy. The pieces are all there and it is so well-made. This is so worth the money if you’re looking for just like a little daybed.
