OKI Data B412dn 35ppm Monochrome Printer (62444301)

I needed a simple printer to connect to our lab titration device for printed output. This was a very economical printer that works great and saved me over $700 from the quotations of similar equipment from Mettler Toledo. I'm extremely satisfied and grateful for the rapid delivery.

The printer worked well for a year, then the print quality faded to grey. I contacted Oki tech support via the web, but nobody got back to me. I tried every troubleshooting and possible fix I could find on the internet, none of which worked. I purchased and installed a new OEM toner cartridge, no help. The print has become is so light it is becoming hard to read. I need a good laser printer, but think I should not have to trash one after light use for little over a year and purchase a new one.

Hard to beat for the price. It's fast and prints well. Toner and image drums are expensive but close to other brands.

So you decided it was time for a new laser printer and you thought Oki Data might make a good one. You do all your comparisons and figure this might have the bang for the buck you're looking for. The price was right, and the specs are spectacular. So what could be the catch? You plunk down your money and you wait for the instant gratification that your order shipped. Shipping sure was fast. The package is double boxed and you open it with great anticipation. Sure is packed well. You're ready to set it up and you have an inkling of what to do to connect it to your network. You stop to get the latest drivers downloaded from the internet and here is where you start to see the begining signs of disappointment. There are no NEW drivers. The Oki driver is terrible. You manage to make due with it anyway and move on. Paper paths: Main tray is very flimsy and holds about 250 sheets of paper. The bypass tray paper thin and you're sure this won't last 3 months. The rear door is equally fragile and it won't withstand the constant changes your business needs require. Ditto for the top cover. I mention this because the real overall issue with the paper paths is the constant paper jams that require to open the top, remove the oversize toner cartridge and clean up the spill of toner every time this happens. So it jams, and it jams. On a positive not it does duplex printing quite nicely. But that's not all. Power saving: This would be a great feature if the wake on LAN really worked. I call this printer my friend that suffers from failure to launch. After even a brief pause in printing it goes into a deep sleep. I tried the power settings and that didn't change anything. So I print a few pages and head to the touch keys and try to wake it up. This thing is crankier than my 81 year old mother! Summation: Not only do you not get what you paid for you are challenged and reminded daily that you are sinking more time into a $150 tool that is the biggest single obstacle to getting your work done every day. To solve the printer driver issue I use the HP universal driver which actually manages this printer better than the Hokey Oki Data driver. So, buy a different printer. You'll be glad you did. And if you really want one of these hit me up and make me a real offer to take this one off my hands. ;-)

You need the USB and ip driver if you install as a USB printer. For some reason it doesn't include it in a single driver pack. After you get past that, it works great. Fast, crisp and unbeatable unit with Ethernet built in.

.. excellent printer .. i have purchased okidata the past 25 years.. the first printer was 4ppm.. this one is 35ppm.. and duplex... i can't complain .. would not change my oki for any other printer

Great printer when it works. Unfortunately the drum died in less than 6 months of normal use. I thought it was the toner so I spent money on a new cartridge too. The drum is almost as expensive as buying a new printer????!!
