Darkglass Hyper Luminal Bass Compressor Pedal w/Gain Reduction Meter

This thing is more than I wanted to spend but it is definitely worth the $$$ Very intuitive to operate and is actually 3 different compressors in one. The tone is very clean and transparent. Highly recommend. I tried another famous brand that was less costly but returned it and got this instead.

This is an amazing sounding pedal. It has a ton of versatility and almost infinite amount of very usable settings. It’s an “always on” pedal for me. Not the least expensive compression pedal for bass, but definitely one of the best you can get at any price. Well worth the money in my opinion.

This pedal got me excited about music again. It really clears up tones and boosts what you need. I was never really into pedals--but now I'm starting to experiment. Never understood what a compressor pedal did actually. It makes things more consistent and audible. Really helps blend your sound when playing with other people. Really good value for money, really changed my playing!

First off let me tell yeah, this thing is packed with features! For starters this pedal can emulate 3 different compressor models including the Solid State Logic Bus, the legendary 1176, and Darkglass's very own, now discontinued, Super Symmetry. And if that is not enough for you, in future updates you will be able to change out some of the modeled compressors. This pedal features 4 knobs for Blend, Time, Output, and Compression. As well as 2 touch sensors to adjust ratio and mode(which modeled compressor is active). Darkglass even included the All-Button Mode (also known as the "four button trick" or "British Mode") with the 1176, simply press the ratio touch sensor 4 times until all 4 leds are lit. Overall im very pleased with this purchase, my only con so to speak is the way the power jack looks, sort of a square peg in a round hole, for the cost of this pedal one would think that could have been made to look a little more appealing.

Like a lot of guitar players, I’ve had a lot of compressors, starting with the classic red MXR and the boss C-2. They’re all quite useful in their own way and sound a little different. This one is quite different. I would say from my use of studio compressers that in fact it is more like studio compressor than a guitar pedal compressor. Duh. That is in fact what they tell you it is, although it is in fact bass compressor that mimics a piece of studio gear. I am using it to get an explosive, squeezy, chewy sound out of a telecaster for fast chicken picking. The other compressor I am currently using is a Wampler. The Wampler sounds much more “compressed“. It also heightens the sense of mid range fatness in the note and carves off a lot of high end. This one is very different. It definitely compresses the note but does not affect the tone as much. This is good for some things and not so hot for other things. I am thinking I will keep them both in the signal chain. So if you wanna blow some dough trying to get a different compressor sound, this could be for you. But don’t expect that classic guitar pedal compressor sound. As far as a huge range of sounds, despite the fact that there are three settings in a ratio control I don’t think it’s all that versatile. But it definitely is a high-quality piece if you really want transparency, to hear the actual tone of the instrument through the compression.

Honestly one of the best purchases I have ever made for my live rig. I've been in the market for a compressor pedal for quite a while as I've wanted to round out my sound and bring up my mids and highs for a clearer and crisper sound. Originally I was going to go with MXR or Mark Bass Compressore but the resounding suggestion from everyone I spoke with was to check out Darkglass (even from sellers that didn't carry it, that in and of itself piqued my interest). After watching some videos and reading some reviews I shelled out the extra $100 to go with the Hyper Luminal and I have to say this pedal has more than delivered. On my first outing with the Hyper Luminal in hand I got compliments on the tone and sound of my bass, that it sounded warm yet still had a lot of definition. As this was a road gig I used my cheap Ibanez Gio bass that usually sounds too punchy for its own good. For someone to come and compliment the sound of this bass coming out of a Rumble 200 at a busy convention center was all the affirmation I needed to tell me I made a good purchase. I have yet to fully delve into the infinite array of customization that is offered with this pedal via the micro-usb port on its side, but my initial reaction is largely positive. My only suggestion would be to include a switch in future iterations that allow you to go from one custom loadout to the next. Right now it may not make a ton of sense but as Darkglass continues to add more compression models to the library it would be nice to be able to switch between a bass loadout and a guitar loadout at the flip of a switch or touch of a button. At any rate that is super nitpicky and doesn't detract from my overall enjoyment of this pedal. TL:DR - Just buy it, you won't be disappointed!

I use this pedal for bass guitar. I’ve never bad a compression pedal before but I’ve experimented with it in my Zoom B3n. This pedal surpasses the digital compressor in the Zoom. Having this pedal has made me see (and hear) just what compression does! Highly recommend!!

I don’t write much reviews. Had to stop what I was doing to compliment the manufacturers of this compressor. I’m knocked off my feet. Look no further. This is the one.
