Thick enough
These are great for can lighting when used in ceilings between living areas and unheated/cooled spaces. You can't install them from the bottom, though, so you have to have access to the attic space. Thick enough to support insulation, and the ears make it easier to seal, as well as spread the load a bit so I wasn't worried about attaching it to the wood.
