Nevertheless, functionality is normally good. For BMW owners who wish to update their infotainment system without having to replace the entire head unit, the CarPlay retrofit kit is an excellent option. It functions flawlessly after I placed it on a 2019 BMW 5 Series equipped with the EVO ID6 system. Smooth wireless CarPlay capabilities, quick connections, reliable performance, and snappy touch controls are all made possible by the kit. Media, apps, and navigation all work flawlessly, much like a system that comes pre-installed. It easily interfaces with current ID5/ID6 systems, including steering wheel controls, and works with a variety of BMW models. The kit feels sturdy and dependable, and installation was simple with good instructions. It is a streamlined improvement since, once installed, there are no large adapters or additional cables to be seen. Considering that I already had an aftermarket review camera installed, setting it up was simple. I just needed to take the aftermarket camera's cables out of the box and move. Although it takes two seconds, splicing is necessary. I am not sure how that arrangement would function because I do not have an OEM camera, but it is definitely feasible. Make sure you choose the OEM or aftermarket camera in the MMi settings. The first three settings below should then, in my opinion, be set to read the accompanying manual. If you are asking if this device can be used with multiple screen sizes, the answer is yes. All you need to do is manually setup the dip switches appropriately. Since I have an 8" screen, the first three switches are turned on. Call quality may depend on how audio is routed, reverse camera pass-through, steering wheel/iDrive knob control, and boot behavior may cause a small wait before the interface is ready, and audio lag or reconnection anomalies may occasionally occur on cold starts. However, functioning is typically good. If you want wireless smartphone integration without replacing the head unit, the installation is moderate dash trim removal, inline harness, mounting the box, routing USB/wifi antenna; durability depends on clean mounting and heat management; buyers who prioritize OEM-level stability should think about OEM activation/coding or higher-tier modules with better support. The CarPlay retrofit kit is a great choice for BMW customers who want to upgrade their infotainment system without having to replace the entire head unit. After I installed it on a 2019 BMW 5 Series with the EVO ID6 system, it works perfectly. The package enables seamless wireless CarPlay capabilities, fast connectivity, dependable performance, and quick touch controls. Like a pre-installed system, media, apps, and navigation all function well. It is compatible with many BMW models and integrates with existing ID5/ID6 systems, including steering wheel controls, with ease. The installation was easy with clear directions, and the kit feels robust and reliable. Since there are no big adapters or extra cables visible after installation, it is a simplified improvement. Setting it up was easy because I already had an aftermarket review camera installed. All I had to do was take the aftermarket. Review: keeps the factory system and adds carplay - This wireless CarPlay + Android Auto retrofit is a solid upgrade for BMWs with the EVO iDrive system (ID5/ID6) across 1โ7 Series and X1โX6 models (2016โ2020) if you want modern smartphone integration while keeping the factory screen and controls. It works as an add-on module that plugs into the original system, so you retain the OEM BMW interface but gain wireless CarPlay, Android Auto, and screen mirroring features. These EVO interface boxes are commonly designed to integrate with the factory iDrive controller and steering wheel buttons, letting you navigate apps like Maps, Spotify, and calls without changing the original head unit. Many versions also support backup camera input and navigation overlays for added convenience and safety. Overall, itโs a clean OEM-style upgrade that modernizes older BMW infotainment systems with wireless connectivity and smartphone features while preserving the factory look and feel.
