Super simple fermentation so far
I am reviewing the 5-piece fermentation set.Examining the jar, you can tell it's well made but I had a few questions so I had to contact the manufacturer who is located in England.Firstly, there is a floating cup inside the airlock, which I was confused about. The rubber bung is the stopper, and the airlock is the tube section and within it is a thinner tube. You put on the wooden lid, and then push the bung and airlock which are one piece into the hole. The floating cup sits on top of the thinner tube inside the airlock. You fill the airlock 1/2 to 3/4 to the top of the floating cup with water and then put the lid back on. There are tiny holes in the airlock lid that releases the fermentation gases. That was not in the instructions, so I thought I'd mention that. Also I didn't have enough produce to fill the jar so I placed a cabbage leaf on top of my jalapenos and then placed the stones on the cabbage leaf, because the jalapenos were floating up and around the stones. I am including a picture of that and the airlock.I just started my ferment and it's supposed to take only 5 to 7 days so I will report back after that.****By day 4 I felt they were sufficiently fermented and put them in the fridge, in a mason jar with just a lid, but kept the cabbage leaf which now can keep them submerged without the stones. They will continue to slowly ferment since it's cold and hopefully will last me a while.****

Favorite Fermentation Jar - High Quality Glassware!
One of my favorite fermentation jars, in my commercial kitchen. I lead Junior chefs and we love the quality of the glass and how easy it is to set up and use. Fantastic product!

Wished it had a top to close after ferment is done
Love the jar but I did not like that i did not have a lid to close after ferment was done. My silicon top popped up but i'm sure it was not sealed all the way. I will look closer on my second ferment.

Great quality
Great quality. Easy to clean. Good for making 40oz of hot sauce per batch. I recommend taping the lid down as I found it popped open on my first batch.

Perfect for the countertop!
I love Kilner products. This fermentation jar set is perfect for sauerkraut, kimchi, pickling and tons of other stuff! It comes with 2 ceramic stones to hold items down plus a silicone top and vent for a perfect seal with no bugs getting in.

Poor quality glass
I used this jar for fermenting vegetables. I put it in the dishwasher to sterilize and it cracked down the seam. I was told I could not purchase another jar, that I would have to purchase the whole set. Not happy!

This system will make fermenting veggies easy.
I am so excited to make my own small batches of sauerkraut! I grew up with a barrel of sauerkraut in our basement and, being of German descent, love it. Can't wait to experiment and this system will make it easy.
