I think they are better in some ways 1. scientific notation (we use this constantly in chem) is available w/o having to push 2nd first 2. takes cheap AAA batteries instead of expensive button cells, batteries super easy to replace (although I doubt I'll ever have to replace them)

When trying to get sq root I pressed the shift,square root button, the number, and then the equals button and get syntax error. What am I doing wrong?

To take sq root, you should just press square root button, then the number, the the equal button. To take X root of a number, then you use the shift + the X root button. For example, to take ∛64, you press 3 first, then the shift button, then the x√, then 64, then the equal button. You should get 4.
