Excellent Quality, Simple, and Works Perfectly
I bought the SABRENT 2.5 Inch SATA to USB 3.0 Tool Free External Hard Drive Enclosure (EC-UASP) after the USB connector on my previous external drive failed. Instead of replacing the whole drive, I removed the HDD and installed it into this enclosureโand Iโm really glad I did. The build quality is excellent. Itโs lightweight but still feels solid and durable. Assembly was incredibly easyโtruly tool-free as advertisedโand took just a couple of minutes. Performance has been flawless. It connected immediately, works perfectly, and Iโve had zero issues so far. It basically gave new life to my old hard drive. Overall, I couldnโt be more satisfied with this purchase. If youโre looking for a reliable, simple, and well-built enclosure, this is a great choice.

Almost perfect
This was exactly what I was looking for. Easy access to swap a drive if I need to and best part of all IT HAS A POWER SWITCH ON IT! Now for those of you that wonder why I say that. First of all I work on computers and I also edit audio and video files for various companies for commercials, demos, theatrical events and that's my side business and hobby. So I move around a lot of large raw and wav and assorted video files and backup applications and then there's Windows 10. If you live and breath in windoze land and by their rules like an ostrich with your head in the sand or a sheep then you may as well stop reading this and move on. But if you run multiple operating systems like I do then golden rule #1. Windows watches and monitors EVERYTHING you do constantly. All my documents pictures and private things are kept on external drives specifically for this reason and also because I want to be able to use them in various flavors of linux or on mac as well. so ALL of it stays on externals nicely out of windows prying eyes. I can plug this drive the way I have it set up into any pc, and use the on and off switch when I want something from it. This completely stops all this "you need to scan and fix this drive before you can use it" crap. Now anyone that uses other operating systems knows no matter what you do, even if you use the little eject usb options in windows, if you run the drive on a different operating system first time you use it on windows again its going to do this and also it may ask you or tell you to reformat the drive. There is nothing wrong with anything except its just windows getting prissy cause you used another operating system besides theirs. this is the only reason this happens. I say prissy cause amazon wont let me say B----y in a review but this is the bare facts. Windows thinks its the only thing in the world worth using and they want you to think that too. Anyway I dropped a Crucial BX500 1tb sold state drive in this and its perfect, and does everything I want it to and I'm getting great read and write speeds and a lot faster than any of the seagate or WD external drives and it does exactly what I want. The only thing that would make it any better was if it was externally powered so windows couldn't put it to sleep. If you use external drives and are tired of drives sleeping and windows constantly nagging you about what you do with it then try doing it thsi way. Its faster, its solid state so you don't have to worry about shock speeds or heat and its fast. Extremely fast depending on the drive you choose to put in it and best of all its actually lower in priceand you get better performance than the other "ready-to-go" off the shelf pre made externals. Read a little, learn a little and try it yourself and save yourself some money time and frustration. and dont let the odd usb cable fool you, they are easy to find and the connector is a lot less trouble free than a mini usb or type c and the best part of it, you can use this setup with a common cable they way I have it set up with any android or apple phone that allows external storage so its versatile as well. Just buy it. You wont regret it. I have mine setup with 2 partitions. one set up as storage and I have a 40gb partition with Linux Mint 64 bootable on it all set up as a service toolbox for other PC's as well and it just flies in anything I attach it to. A lot faster than a flash drive and 900gb of space to do or save anything else you want. You cant make a seagate or WD prefab external do that like this and have it run this well. There's absolutely no cons here, just possibly the perfect external drive case.

Works Great!!
This review is for SABRENT 2.5 Inch SATA to USB 3.0 Tool Free Clear External Hard Drive Enclosure [Optimized for SSD, Supports UASP SATA III] (EC-OCUB). I have a 320GB drive and a 1TB drive from two very old Dell and HP laptops that I no longer have but I kept these drives โjust in caseโ, never thinking that Iโd ever be able to read them, EVER. Well, with this enclosure, I was finally able to access everything on those old drives. I actually bought this clear enclosure and an aluminum enclosure at the same time to compare them. While I like this clear enclosure for how cool it looks and how easy it is to insert my old SATA 2.5โ drive into it, I thought the plastic felt a bit โweakโ and wanting. The speed was also fast as far as i could tell. If not for the coolness factor, Iโd say to go with the aluminum enclosure because itโs nice and solid but just takes a little more work to slip the drive into it. Overall, this is one of my best findings so far this year. After almost a decade of holding on to the old SATA drive from my laptops I can finally access all my old files and/or reuse the drives for backup. I am so psyched about this! Iโm not too wild about the thin plastic feel of this enclosure so Iโd give it a 4.5/5.0 - 03/20/2026.

No performance gain over USB 2 but works in USB 3 Ports
I'm going to keep the two enclosures I bought since they are so cheap however these are *NOT* high performance enclosures as far as I can tell (having only one non USB3 enclosure to compare it to.) I'm using a a tool called hdparm and I'm going to show the "buffered disk reads" since "cached reads" are very similar even with my M2 drive which is obviously higher performance than all others. Here is the performance of *this* enclosure with the 1 TB samsung drive when connected to a non "SS" port. $ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sdb1 Timing buffered disk reads: 120 MB in 3.04 seconds = 39.46 MB/sec Connected to an SS port, I get very similar performance (while I hoped it would improve): $ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sdb1 Timing buffered disk reads: 120 MB in 3.04 seconds = 39.47 MB/sec This doesn't really *prove* that much. Maybe my non SS ports are actually SS ports. Since some peripherals work in the SS ports and others don't (how lame) they have *some* difference so I do basically trust this result already but you should require more proof. Let's check out what happens when I use the bigger brother 4 TB SSD drive which is now connected directly to the motherboard using the SATA port: $ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda Timing buffered disk reads: 1596 MB in 3.00 seconds = 531.82 MB/sec The buffered disk reads has jumped from 39 MB/sec to 531 MB/sec. This is more in line with what I was hoping for. While 531 MB/sec is impressive, an SS port is actually rated at 625 MB/sec so the drive could in theory still be supported at full speed with an SS port and thus in theory it's little brother drives could also work that fast with a kick ass enclosure. Before I deliver the death blow, here is what my 512MB "M2" main drive plugged into the motherboard delivers: $ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/nvme0n1p1 Timing buffered disk reads: 512 MB in 0.42 seconds = 1228.80 MB/sec This is clearly why if you have a choice, you really want a really big "M2" style drive. BTW, M2 style drives differ in length -- I had to return one 2 years ago because it was too long to fit in my tiny ass motherboard because I opted for a small system (a mistake). **But here is the death blow.** I have a *non* SS enclosure I bought a few years ago so let's benchmark that (it doesn't work in my SS usb ports so only one number): $ sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sdb1 Timing buffered disk reads: 104 MB in 3.01 seconds = 34.52 MB/sec My conclusion is that the "SABRENT 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 3.0" enclosure being reviewed by me is only better than by old USB 2 one by 15% though they do work in any USB port I hook it up to. The good: * It appears to work reliably in any USB port including SS ports * My model of SSD fit perfectly and nothing will wiggle once installed * Backing up 500 GB will take about 2 hours - not great but OK for incremental backup with something like time-machine, etc. * The transparent case option is very, very nice. I can now see what's inside without taking anything apart. The flashing red LEDs (there is a always on blue LED too) could be annoying to some but OK for me. ((Just finished my copy and unmounted, the red LED turned off though the blue LED is still on. This is good.)) * My slower enclosure was actually a mesh material. After a 2 hour backup, while there was a slight hotspot, if you're using with an SSD and not a rotational disk, I don't think you'll have a problem at all. * The cost of $10 is very reasonable. I probably will not return for precisely this reason. The Bad: * This enclosure seems to perform only incrementally better than a 2 year old enclosure rated for USB 2 no matter if hooked into an SS or non SS USB port. * While it's not hard to slip *in* the SSD drive, it's a bit hard to remove a drive once inserted (though certainly not impossible to remove -- I've already done so at least twice). Had they simply left the "bottom" open (the part with the electronics) it would be really easy to slide in and out using thumb friction. Then slipping on the top would have secured everything in just the same manner with no gaps for dust or anything provided the "top" went all the way down on the back. It's a very trivial change. I'm not an expert on injected molded plastic but for crying out loud this can't really cost that more and five minutes of user testing should have discovered exactly this. * Although the correct cable is supplied, the USB Micro-B connector on the drive side is very weird (outside of the external hard drive world - perhaps par for the course - two Seagate external drives I have use this same stupid connector). The mesh USB SATA enclosure had an almost equally hated Mini USB cable though I actually had a few of those because I hoard cables and cell phones and Palm pilots used this briefly in like 2008.

Gives me access to a dead laptop hard drives. Inexpensive, easy, effective.
An old HP laptop (2015) finally died (wouldn't even start up) and the two drives inside have files I need to access. Pulled the 2.5" hard drives out of the laptop and this little box solved the access issue for very little money and very little effort. Other reviewers have had issues with getting a drive into the enclosure but I installed one of the drives, a 15 year old 9mm 2.5" HD, with no problem. Slipped in the drive, snapped the enclosure shut, plugged it in and I have file access again. Only had it a day, so can't comment on durability or reliability, but right now it seems like a 5 star and I'll get another one for the other drive.

Inexpensive and Excellent
These work very well and are inexpensive. With the Sabrent case being clear, one can see the brand of the enclosed SATA, so that they can, in a family setting where several drives might be used, be readily identified. I used a couple of these for my daughter's and granddaughter's old laptop SATA drives so they can tell them apart. Anyone can mount an old 2.5-inch SATA drive pulled from an old computer in one of these to access the data. Or install a new SATA drive in one and use it as a backup or secondary storage.

Good value
Works as expected. No tools required. Installed my hard drive in less than one minute. Very happy and only $10 so it was a great deal. So far so good.

Easy as pie to use and very well made.
I needed a new enclosure for a 1TB HDD I wanted to add to my system as a local backup device. Being familiar with the Sabrent brand, I purchased this enclosure because it was very reasonably priced, I knew it would have high quality, and I liked the idea of tool-less installation. I am happy to say my expectations were more than satisfied. Here's what I like about the enclosure: 1) Great price. 2) Flawless quality in fit and finish. 3) Dead simple installation: slide open the enclosure, line up the HDD, slide it home, close the case, and your new drive is ready to use. 4) I wasn't expecting the activity/power LED, but I am glad the company designed one in. 5) It has a nice, short USB cable, which, given my setup, is much better than one several feet long. 6) And, it has a convenient power switch. If you have a SATA HDD in need of a new home, you can't do better than this enclosure.
